Well a thinking person might wonder ,if the returns to date had favoured a yes vote, would the ballot have been extended?

Could one of our brothers in the "know" give us the ballot forecast at the ballot extension decision time

The ballot is being carried out by an independant company, and I have no doubt there are very strict rules regarding where, and more importantly when, the returned envelopes are opened and counted, just the same as applies in General, or Local elections, where the papers are kept under lock and key until the ballot finishes.

If votes were counted before the ballot period finished, and the result was leaked in any way, that could have an undue influence on voters who have not yet cast their vote.

Dingo why not just put the agreement in with the ballot so people can read it and make an informed decision, its how this union always used to work, I've no problem with a DVD going in with it, but just to have the DVD and no agreement is imo wrong, its the start of a slippery slope, who can believe in the year 2010 we send out ballot papers without the agreement, that people are voting on, is this modernisation

In fact as most people who have DVD players also have a laptop or desktop computer why didn't they include the whole agreement as a PDF/Word Document at the end of the Video - Cheaper than printing it and in fact very little if any extra costs.

I am absolutely sure you are 100% correct.
However there are these whizzy new things they can do now ,you seem to be ignorant of them ,let me give you a some hints. Exit polls ;telephone polls ; random sampling ; branch feedback ; all a bit X-files I know but it does go on ,honest

If this vote results in 2010 & Beyond being ratified, the CWU can watch members like me leaving in droves next week. Then they can refer to the April 2010 vote as 'the exit poll'

Apologies brother Carnoustie for any confusion caused ,the exit poll mentioned was a point made to illustrate the varied techniques used to forecast ballots in general. I'm not privy to the type of monitoring used by the CWU , but they would be unique if they weren't doing it , and I must confess to hearing of some rather odd telephone conversations ,that may or may not be significant

Exactly the same way Carnoustie - I am sure that my rep is not the only one asking "Have you sent your ballot paper back yet" and Then "and what did you vote" - if enough reps do this country wide and report up the chain then the different levels can get an overall picture of the vote. Won't be accurate to a few % points but it will tell them if its likely to be a YES, NO or a close vote.

As to telephone conversations - before the strike vote in 2009 CWU did do some official canvassing of opinion by calling members can't see why they would do it again but its not beyond the bounds of possibility.
