Do you not agree that delivering the letters for less profit is better than someone else delivering them and we get no money at all? Look at the mail in your frame on Monday morning and imagine it without the DSA - Frightening!!

Actually DOM its refreshing to hear an opinion from the other side and I do agree with some of your points. Perhaps if Royal Mail attempted to explain their position instead of imposing it apparently without any consultation with the postmen and postwomen themselves we would not be in the position we are in.

With regards to summer lapsing, I can't see it coming in at my DO without a fight as we have Gio route take out 13 walks and we are now in the process of putting back in at least 8 maybe more so we have no slack at all. Another thing I see here is that when F/T are put on other duties so we have less and less doing the IPS and the walks are therefore getting squeezed and people and then rebelling and working to their time causing you DOMs and Lineos more problems.

This team working as well seems unfair from my level, why should hard working people who rarely go sick (No days sick at all this year for me), cover without extra pay the walks of others who call in sick regularly. This can be seen as punishing those who work hard and reward those who go sick.

Also I would not want to be in your shoes when later starts do come in, (which I accept they will) you will have less people willing to work overtime when you need them to. This will be exacerbated when and if they remove the overtime payments for it.

In essence from my lowly position as a Postmen these new ways of working seem to punish you for working hard and reward you for being lazy.

What it does is put pressure on people not to go sick because it'll affect "the team". I just finished a job where if someone else was off sick, you always ended up picking up their work for the day, and although we had loads of sickness (sometimes because you were knackered from covering sickness!) it does change how people think about it.

All kinds of other rubbish about team working as well, it's all designed to make you identify with lower-level management, split up workers into little groups. Very wrong.

I think that those at the top (Royal Mail and CWU) need to start working together and then it might flow throught to us.

This is where me and the CWU leadeship part company.

You don't seem to get it. YOU are our competitors. YOU are helping Leighton and Crozier impose more work, later start times, team working on US. YOU are the public face of a system which closes OUR hospitals, OUR schools, runs down OUR transport services and sets worker against worker. YOU are the ones who scab without question while WE fight for better conditions. YOU have chosen to side with OUR oppressor and take your thirty pieces of silver. YOU who never raise a voice of dissent as you watch US struggle with increasing amounts of mail. YOU who deprive men and women of THEIR livelihoods for having the nerve to stay off sick.

As I said those at the top need work together.

Whether it's RM or the CWU refusing to negotiate, they need to sort it out. Neither of them want to walk out of the room admitting defeat so I see it that both parties have to give something up and the sooner the better!
