Re: Hows this `1 in 4 Saturdays` off gona work ??
As dingo has pointed out RML employ saturday only PT , so therefore they cant give Saturday off to everyone.
But as said by gb93 4, But the agreement guarantees more Saturdays off for those who want them.
Not everyone in my D.O wants more saturdays or any saturday off for that matter.
CWU has also said
http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... eement.pdf
• A MINIMUM of one in four Saturdays off with the opportunity to go beyond this.
A menu of options will be provided.
http://www.cwu.org/assets/_files/docume" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... ril_20.pdf
Saturdays – The introduction of the new machinery means we cannot avoid a standarised 6 day service.
Neither can we ignore our obligations to deliver on Saturdays – but the agreement GUARANTEES more
Saturdays off for those who want them. This is a real opportunity to develop new work patterns that suit
your circumstances. A menu of options will be provided to ensure more Saturdays off are delivered in
practice.

Re: Hows this `1 in 4 Saturdays` off gona work ??
ive worked it out that lots of us already get 1 in 4 saturdays off , and i doubt it wont get any better.
If your a 20 year man, you get 6 weeks off a year, so theres 6 sats.
We work rotating day off, tues one week, then wed next, thurs next, so every 6/7 weeks we get sat sun mon off.
52 weeks in a year, so 52 divided by 7 = 7 long weekends off, add your 6 sats from annual leave = 13 sats off, which is 1 in 4 ,52 divided by 4 =13! so there ya go, no additional saturdays required your dom will say.
thoughts?

Yes , the Rep needs to tell the manager he is wrong and bring the big boys into play as the manager would clearly be a thicko!!!

Oh they'll have thought that through but not highlighted it - you're right of course - that is 1 in 4 without even changing anything......................if you take a week sick it's even more.shimmyrule wrote:ive worked it out that lots of us already get 1 in 4 saturdays off , and i doubt it wont get any better.

Longer Saturdays ? Longer than what ?? we already do 5-30 till 1-30(8hrs) just like rest of week !
In order to get 1 in 4 off you will most likely have to work more than 8hrs on a saturday.

Big Daz, point 4 "the agreement guarantees more Saturdays off for those who want them" is part of a cwu leaflet not the actual agreement.Come on surely you know that you posted it yourself.I will reapeat myself again anybody show me were it says in the AGREEMENT that everybody will get at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off.

No way should ANYBODY agree to do this, irrespective of whether they have a good CWU rep, a weak rep, or even if their office has no rep at all.Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:
Dont know if this happens at other offices but incase of family emergenices we get time off and owe it back!! 2 recent things were 1 blokes wife reacted badly to anaesthetic and went into a coma on the operating table, was out of it for 3 weeks or so , so he had to take 3 weeks off coz they have 3 kids and he`d lots to do. When he came back he was told he owed them 120 hrs which equates to 120 rows !! They now make him work his day off every week doing 2 or 3 rows of his debt. And a blokes wife recently got breast cancer, had to have the breast removed etc , and he took 2 weeks off to help her through it, came back and they said he owed them 60 hours (hes pt). Theyre making him do a ft van duty for 3 weeks to pay back the hours he owes. Thing he shes going through chemo now and the like, and he cant go with her coz he owes them and hes asked for days here and there and he`s been told no chance.
It is your right to take time off at short notice for domestic distress or family-related issues. Time taken off under emergencies such as those you quoted should be taken as Special Leave A or Special Leave B (one is paid, one is unpaid - I forget which is which). Under no circumstances should you ever have to pay back the hours !!!
What's next if you allow your DIM to bully you in this way ? Having to pay back time off sick ?
The two individuals should take out a grievance against the DIM if the union rep is not fighting for them

Re: Hows this `1 in 4 Saturdays` off gona work ??
The agreement on 1 in 4 is worded in that way for 2 very simple reasons,
Everyone will have the right to work to have 1 in 4 attendances off , you will have options to have one Saturday off in two or 3 and some will be able to have every Saturday off. The reason why its says majority is that the survey of the staff which is conducted prior to any revison activity which contained on page 31 number 5.
The second reason why its states majority is that , some staff have patterns like Wallington which they will wanted to keep , plus some may choose to keep their current system. Plus you have a significant number of Saturday only part timers who could not have 1 in 4.
However everyone including part timers and reserves will have the opportunity to have a miniumn of 1 in 4 attendances off.
The review which is listed on page 15 workplan states that the workplan must support the improved attendance patterns.
Acas was fully involved in the process and know why things were worded in this way and that is why their is a section titled REVIEW THE AGREEMENT WHICH STATES : THE FULL TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT WILL BE SUBJECT TO ONGING REVIEW AND THE NATIONAL PARTIES WILL MEET REGULARLY TO MONITOR OVERALL PROGRESS.
STANDARDISED REPORTING SYSTEMS WILL BE ESTABLISHED WITH SHARED DATA TO MEASURE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE AGREEMENT AND ENSURE THE COMMITMENTS MADE WITHIN IT ARE DELIVERED IN PRACTICE.
GIVEN OUR INTENTION TO CHANGE THE NATURE OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ROYAL MAIL AND CWU AND BUILD TRUST ACROSS THE ORGANISATION THE PARTIES WILL CONTINUE TO BE SUPPORTED THROUGH THE INITIAL STAGES OF THE DEPLOYMENT BY THE INDEPENDENT FACILITATOR , ROGER POOLE AND PETER HARWOOD , CHIEF CONCILIATOR OF ACAS.

I have never seen a Saturday only PT in all my years in business and WE have a high proportion of PT duties. Could YOU DINGO give me a guarantee that I will work no more than 1 in 4 Saturdays if this agreement is voted in no matter what.

Yes that is what the agreement means. There are lots of examples of Saturday only duties.gb93 wrote:I have never seen a Saturday only PT in all my years in business and WE have a high proportion of PT duties. It does dingo but it also statesdingo wrote:

That is a big ask for a local rep dingo,I would even say that was a big ask for a divisional rep.To provide ongoing confidence, the roll-out of the new workplan and associated changes will be the subject of joint national reviews to establish that the operational assumptions within the workplan support the criteria detailed below.
That mail arrivals are consistent with the transformation workplan and support and enable the attendance patterns and duty structures contained in the functional sections of this agreement to be delivered at local level.
That the operational transformation programme and associated workplan support the nationally planned staffing mix of around 75 percent full time/25 per cent part time.
The maintenance and potential improvement in quality of service.
The need to provide capacity for new products and services.
The need to provide a cost effective operation.
Ensures safety for employees.
That CSS machines are in the best locations to improve mail arrivals and quality of service.
Arrival and despatch times in mail centres will continue to support the needs of the pipeline
