If you dont have a driving licence but the duty you have been doing for years will be turned into a CDV duty because of it's distance from the office,will that person still be able to pick it in a re- sign?

There will be two in a CDV duty.
Only one HAS to be a driver.

Ther will be 2 of you,one a driver one not,so you could still get your duty.

I can drive but I am not registered as an OMV driver & don't want to be.

If enough drivers de-register before this crazy scheme comes upon us we could beat it, but it needs to halt the use of private vehicles & the drivers de-register.

Is it true all new contracts stipulate that you must be willing to drive an OMV ?

If that's the case then I will seriously think twice before signing a contract as I don't want to be driving a RM van.

Why are people going to drive for pittance when in return your responsible for the other passengers safety plus you get parking tickets etc doing your job. With no backing from rm.

I can't see why not the RM do have some non drivers working for them don't they?
On the other hand if you were a travelling salesman you would expect to lose your job if you lost you driving licence.

Dealing with drivers who invalidate themselves from driving

This is not a new problem for Royal Mail, but the increased numbers of vans in your operation may make the problems associated with this more acute. Guidance on how to deal with this situation will vary, depending on the nature of how the licence has been invalidated.

However, as a principle, all reasonable steps will be made to find alternative duties within the parent unit for people who can no longer perform a driving duty. Licences may be invalidated for many reasons – common situations include:

1. Alcohol & Drugs
2. Medical condition
3. Driving offences, e.g. civil speeding points.

Would be interested in knowing how to de register from driving.had an accident at christmas in royalmail van.

told them i no longer wished to drive.was threatened with suspension.then told they would no longer have a

job for me if i didnt drive.union man was present during this and didnt say a word to defend me.my contract

started when i was 16 so certainly didnt have a licence then.

I wonder if you could challenge the "occasional driving" element of the contract if in fact you were expected to drive every day and carry a passenger/passengers. I don't know if there is anything in this CDV Guidelines which states you must drive if asked, I mean has anyone considered what would happen in a given DO if nobody wanted to drive for RM?

You need to write a letter to your DOM stating you no longer wish to drive for Royal Mail and that you are officially giving him/her 4 weeks notice , if possible go see your doctor tell them that driving is giving you hard to deal with stress issues (finding it difficult to keep to scedule without speeding ect) and get a supporting note from them.

I did this a few years ago as driving for RM did really stress me out and affected the way I drove my own vehicle outside of work , they keep trying to get me back covering absence but I just refuse and state the reasons.

Employment law is not on our side on this issue. The law is an ass.

This was proved when postman were forced to drive car dervied vans during last years dispute. We got legal advice from specialists and it was not very good. Our members in the end had to make a choice did they face displine or did they drive. Some who decided to do that now perfer the CDVs.

Royal Mail do their homework , they know who use their private cars on delivery now , and they also know that it restricts space for private cars in yards etc. Plus just as important it restricts the duties you can sign for.

For example if you have 30 walks , 20 and them CDVs and 10 HCT walks then a non driver can only sign for 5 duties on the CDVs and the 10 duties on the HCT walks. As non driving shared van partners should be restricted to 50% or less of the total number of shared van partners.

The agreement does talk about that DRIVING DUTIES WILL BE RESTRICTED TO EXISTING AND VOLUNTEER NEW DRIVING DUTIES AND NON DRIVING DUTIES WILL BE RESTRICTED TO NON -DRIVERS.

If that is the case dingo DRIVERS will find their choice of duties even more restricted than non-drivers as they will more or less find themselves pushed onto the cdv duties.
