All they've got to do is arrange for someone to come in once a week to collect it, especially over the summer. Can't they set up a mail collect for the 6 week holiday?!

There's over 80 schools where I live, times 80 by £29.40 = £2352. That needs to be done for for Summer, Easter, Christmas and the three Half-Terms so 6 x £2352 = £14112 a year for the city I live in. All of that has to come out the council budget which is funded from our council tax. It doesn't sound much when you say it's £29.40 but what it really adds up to is a lot of money.
Putting it that way ,then why should Royal Mail give the council a free service worth £14112 a year ?
By the way i deliver to a primary school and it gets left in the fitting (or under it in a tray after a few days)

We had this in our office the other year , to me it sums up what is all wrong with RM. We are as far as I know , still designated a public service and as such should use common sense , not a money matters above all else line.

We have always held the mail for schools when they were on holiday. Not a problem, bundle up ,put in a drop bag by your frame. We did the same for all our customers when they were away , if they asked. till keepsafe came in . For residential I can understand the need for change and keepsafe, but not for schools or other businesses as they are according to my lino are all that matter nowadays , not Granny Smith. So why upset them , by killing their mail off

I know some people may not understand my views, but older hands , will.

I used to hold the mail for a primary school over the holidays.
My lino told me they hadn't paid for a keepsafe so I had to deliver it.
So now I just put it through the letter box.
The janitor comes in occasionally and clears it up.
When school's restart I go back to handing the mail in to the school secretaries. They know it is not my fault. They think RM is run by idiots. It is.

I just take it out everyday and attempt to deliver it, tbh I can get quite confused about the time the mail comes in so they all get mixed in with each other and I never know when they are closing or re-opening.

You should attempt delivery, if you cannot, docket them (I am sure a docket will slip under most doors0 and take them to your post office, who have to keep them for up to two weeks I think!! Sorted!!!

I had a result today, I've been taking out to bundle each day to avoid leaving it on the delivery frame and when walking past the School I noticed the side gate near the kitchens was open! Popped in rang the reception bell and the caretaker came out, I've spoken to him quite a few times in the past when delivering and he seems a nice fella he gladly took the bundle and was very appreciative. Had a chat with him and it turns out he lives on my delivery and is willing to accept the School mail as he pops in a few times a week during holidays to do jobs round the School. So I'm going to knock the door to double check tomorrow that he does live where he says he lives. If so in future I'm going to deliver the mail to him during holidays. :nana

And then lets hope "Caretaker jailed for school mail thefts" isn't splashed across the front page of your local paper.

If he wants to lose his job to steal postcards, utility bills and invoices then good luck to him, I could always ask when he's going to be at the School then deliver the mail to the School when he's there rather than to his house round the corner. At least that way I'm in the clear if he does decided to steal it

Maybe, but "he seems a nice fella" is what they all said about Ian Huntley.
You can't be too careful with school caretakers.
