Re: Delivery of fascist election material?
The point of the conscience clause seems to keep getting missed in theses threads.
The clause was bought in because our colleagues we're attacked, spat at abused ect for delivering them.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

With you all the way there.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: The accepted term and one I prefer is Black, or Afro-Caribbean.
Although, it does make me wonder about just who it is that accepts the term. I've just done watching an american programme on TV where a black doctor referred to a black patient as a "woman of colour." Pardon?
Maybe I'll ask our Diversity Manager (do all offices have them?) ....then again, maybe not considering some of the "information" that has come out of that person's office.

...by people whose views are no doubt just as extreme as the BNP's - so if that happens, refuse to deliver anything to those addresses and show them how free a democracy we have :)POSTMAN wrote:The point of the conscience clause seems to keep getting missed in theses threads.

Re: Delivery of fascist election material?
By refusing to deliver the leaflets of any political party you are not censoring anyone's views or helping other parties, because no-one is saying those leaflets wil not be delivered, just that you are not prepared to deliver them yourself.
It isn't being a fascist to say - I find those views abhorrent. I am not prepared to distribute them.Let someone else do it.
And as for the BNP being a lawful party etc etc - Why were they legally obliged to change their constitution?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

No, not fascist, just having a general lack of understanding of how such acts are viewed by "the public"It isn't being a fascist to say - I find those views abhorrent. I am not prepared to distribute them.Let someone else do it.
Some postie in Guildford could say the same about Labour pamphlets, or some Glaswegian from Bar Head about Tory rubbish, and I'm sure that would go down really well with the senders.
As if RM staff have any say in what gets posted and delivered...

The BNP have the right to have the same equality as any other political party but I have the right to not deliver it for them. Someone else can.
Your still technically being paid by them.

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Lots of fascists on the Left as well, the likes of galloway who "get into bed" with Islamic fundamentalists..... the left turn a blind eye to womens rights, homophobia etc in these cases.

Re: Delivery of fascist election material?
Well I partly agree with that all recognised Political Parties in a democracy should have freedom of speech, as long as that speech does not promote hate, violent action or restrict others rights to hold political views which are different to theirs.mdm wrote:you misunderstood, I'm not saying the bnp are democratic (far from it) just that in a democratic society everybody's views should be heard, however repellent, be that of the left or right. Otherwise how can we judge them?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:What so refusing Conscientious Objectors the right to vote, when they refuse to serve in the "National Service" is a Democratic Policy - One of the BNP ones from their Manifesto for the Euro Elections.mdm wrote:how typically depressing, the left trying to censor things they don't agree with! you want to try democracy, you never know it might grow on you!![]()
Lets hope they have changed that otherwise IMHo they cannot be truly considered as a party with Democratic credentials.
If you want to be a Political Party in a Democratic society then you have to accept that other people have different views and that you cannot restrict their right to vote based solely on that.

Yes that is what I've been saying (in a roundabout way), its just that in my experience, working with some and knowing some, people on the left have told me they want the bnp and its ideology banned. When i point out people views should be heard in a democracy, they just sneer and call me a fascist! The irony is lost on them. Before anyone ask, no i hold no brief for the bnp or any other extremists left or right. Sometimes I just despair of the human race.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Well I partly agree with that all recognised Political Parties in a democracy should have freedom of speech, as long as that speech does not promote hate, violent action or restrict others rights to hold political views which are different to theirs.mdm wrote:you misunderstood, I'm not saying the bnp are democratic (far from it) just that in a democratic society everybody's views should be heard, however repellent, be that of the left or right. Re: Delivery of fascist election material?
Agreed it is a major moral problem for some people but a minor operational problem to solve so why some jump on the "freedom of speech" bandwagon is beyond me.Steviea34 wrote:That is your choice obviously, we have a person in our office refusing also, no problems, he will have to do arealmichael wrote:i always refuse to handle the bnp leaflets and have already told my manager that i will be opting out this time as well.
as far as i am aware you can still refuse, as long as they are not addresed
different delivery for a few days (RIGHTLY SO)whilst someone else delivers them on you walk -
problem solved - SIMPLES![]()
If some don't want to deliver it and i am one the business does not grind to a halt.
It so happens i didn't have to worry this time as they are not on the list we have anyway.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
