Re: How can members make a fully informed decision
Believe me.If you don't know what you are dealing with,in terms of management, they will chew you up and spit you out.I have seen it with certain members who are not adept at doing deals with them.
The deals a members does with a manager is for him/her ONLY.
The deal a rep does is for everyone. It would require ratification by the members. The minute your manager agrees with the rep on member ratification,he has recognised the collected workforce.

At last will all members receive the full 90+ page document of the agreement and could you give us some of the recommendations of the leaders of our union OR indeed the PEC!.
lovejoy wrote:
Yes the members will get the full document - as they always do.
The recommendation from the PEC will be to vote yes....... obviously given that they voted it through to this stage!

Re: How can members make a fully informed decision
One of the primary purposes of a Union, is to represent it's members in negotiations with Management. These unfortunately (for non-members) include changes to attendance patterns, duty content, etc.. So yes. That's really how it works in reality.dropbag_clone wrote:Thats an interesting thought.... only the members of the CWU get to vote on local changes.BELIAL wrote:
Well the good news is ,only union members get to vote and decide on attendance patterns. So if there's only two union members in an office of 86 you can tell them if it's a four day week or 9day fortnight
Is that how it works in reality?
You could of course go to Management with problems/suggestions. But you'd be on your own, rather than being backed up by the Union and it's members.

Yes, sadly (and very embarrasingly!) the CWU has assumed that everyone either has Internet access, or can get someone else to print out a copy for them. What they SHOULD have done, is send a printed copy out to all of us!mondeoman1 wrote:Re: BALLOT TIMETABLE

It's also on the Website. Although if someone's on the 'Net, they've no doubt got a DVD player in their Computer too.
But if you know anyone who doesn't yet have a copy of the deal. Perhaps you could print them a copy. It won't cost much. Obviously it shouldn't be up to you to do HQ's job for them. But it's better than people not having access to the deal before voting.

An 80 page document will cost quite a bit to print off on a home PC, unless you pay peanuts for your ink

That's a good point. Some people use new cartridges every time. But you can usually refill them several times, before you get any deterioration in the quality.
Sorry. I didn't take into account that not everyone refills them.

Really messy that, I used to do it a few years ago, but I always buy Eps*n printers, currently I have two wireless ones and the cartridges - there's 6 of 'em, work out about £2 each, - pretty reasonable - I had a lexm*rk one a few years back and the carts were dearer than the bloody printer.andy2007 wrote:That's a good point. Re: How can members make a fully informed decision
As if they are going to send out an 80 page document to everybody in the union when Ward and his team have a huge hospitality bill to settle for 4 months of negotiations/celebrations.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Re: How can members make a fully informed decision
I wonder if every royalmail office has one a DVD player with the LCD TV's and we could all come in and wave our DVD's and quote the spirit of the agreement!. All the LCD TV's and DVD PLAYERS will soon find new homes and we can all wave our DVD's and the so called agreement will be pulled from the CWU website and our new relationship with royalmail be based upon our subjugation without representation!.mondeoman1 wrote:They have also assumed everyone has a DVD playerandy2007 wrote:Yes, sadly (and very embarrasingly!) the CWU has assumed that everyone either has Internet access, or can get someone else to print out a copy for them. Re: How can members make a fully informed decision
Problem with Royal Mail in this situation is they will tell you about 40 - 50% of the proposed deal before the ballot. If and when the ballot goes their way then they'll start making the rest up as they go along and what you end up with is nothing like what you envisaged/voted for in the first place.

Re: How can members make a fully informed decision
I have already got the cover DOM (one of the few decent ones) to print the agreement off at my DO for those that don't have access to it. You're right it's not my job but area rep is trying to sell the idea to everyone and I've decided to give them the facts in black and white.andy2007 wrote:It's also on the Website. And what do we pay our union subs for to vote on thin air a manifesto for change without not knowing for what change this is like writing out a blank cheque signed sealed delivered to royalmail. IN GOD'S NAME WHAT ARE WE VOTING FOR OR NOT FOR?.Stormproof wrote:But if you know anyone who doesn't yet have a copy of the deal. Perhaps you could print them a copy. It won't cost much.

You are voting for the future of the CWU at any price.k979aaa wrote:And what do we pay our union subs for to vote on thin air a manifesto for change without not knowing for what change this is like writing out a blank cheque signed sealed delivered to royalmail.
