To be fair one started in 1968 so "early" is pushing it a bit and the other transferred to the mail centre and then got his...does that count?
We have had several in our DO over the past 5 years.
For someone to get VR the rest of the unit has to agree to cover that workload.
It will be easier for RM to sack people for minor infringements than go to the hassle of paying out EVR.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Let me guess where you're from. But you are right about the sackings, in the last five years there have been about 6 - 5 full time 1 part time, plus a few that just got thread bare and left.

In our case we were given no choice about "agreeing" to covering the extra workload. It was simply "a duty is going to get collapsed in this office. Someone will get VR." Then things got complicated. The person whose round was going to be collapsed went on long term sick after an operation on her knee. So the collapsing happened a lot sooner than we were led to believe. Then our holiday relief was suspended, and looks like he is going to get the sack. How handy that this now makes VR in our office unnecessary? I have a suspicion that all the letters we signed asking for VR never actually got to the office they were supposed to go to, but are sat under a pile of other stuff on our managers desk. Thinking back, the letters we got did not look official at all and only had our line managers name at the bottom of it. How I regret not making a copy of the letter before sending it back. And as you say clash, the person who has been suspended was done so for a minor infringement. I suspect this will be "the way forward" from now on. Meanwhilst the union look on from their land of fairies and make-believe. Or should that be from their ivory towers?
