But I think I done the right thing.

This happened to me last week. I was doing my bit of lapsing, was going up to this one door and a guy came out of a house a couple doors down. "I live there" he said "I'll take them". When I said "no you wont, I've got to post them" he started going "I'm just having a cup of tea here, look, I've got ID" and he started getting his wallet out and fishing cards out. None of his cards had his address on so I gave my usual well-practised response "It's not you, It's the rules, and if you'll excuse me I've got work to do" and I posted his mail.
Next day I find he's made a complaint about it. But to her credit, the manager had the complaint taken off the record.
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

One woman complained that I had NOT left a packet ( new knickers for the weekend - honest ) on her doorstep, but better that than risk a genuine complaint that a packet has been left and possibly gone missing.
Just do the job properly - it only takes a few minutes a day longer. :Very Happy

on this issue i just use my own discretion, its pretty safe to do if you know the person, usuaully it is safe anyway but if you get that gut feeling that you dont trust the person then go with it, dont put yourself in the fireing line

Just last week one of our guys came across a punter sitting in his car in his drive,"can I have my post mate"he said,"yeah if you show me some ID",so the guy shows him some ID and got his mail and drove off.Only it turns out it was'nt his ID or drive but had nicked the home owners identity to get their mail.
I only very rarely hand over if I definately know them,if not I just tell them "sorry I've never seen you before so cant give you the post"most are happy with that to be fair (its a posh area).
On my old walk on a council estate (where I live myself) a young man and woman were waiting outside my next drop and the guy held out his hand to take the post,I just ignored him and swerved round him and posted it,he went f***ing mental and had to be held back by his girlfriend,he just was'nt interested in why I could'nt just hand it over.I saw the next door neighbour the next day and described the guy and what happend and he said "Oh is he out now,he's been inside for 3 years for burglary and other offences"! :nervous :pray
I bump into him all the time now and he acts like it never happened.
Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

This scam was going on in our area about 5 years back. The same thing a guy sitting on the drive in a car with id for the address. It was mainly mobile phones which were special delivery at the time. They were mostly using addresses where old folk had recently been placed in a home. :no no

If I know the person then I don't have a problem with it, for example there's a few customers on my walk that gets packets all the time so through knocking their doors dozens of times over the last year I don't see a problem with handing them their mail in the street.

However if I get asked my someone I don't know I'll just tell them I don't have anything for them I might even pretend to look for a second, I find that saves a lot of time and hassle of having to explain why I can't hand it out in the street then listen to them moan.

I'll give mail to someone stood outside their house or whatever, but never a random person in the street unless i know the person and where they live.
