Re: The View From The Shop Floor
You are clutching at straws - paid three times for it, yes right - tell you what get a job in payroll I'd just love you to be working out my weekly pay.
Now my whole point is that the 3 year deal is too far advanced to make any sense under the circumstances - understandable if you are going to have to wait til 2013 to make any money at all.
Tell you what - ask your part time colleagues if they think they are being paid three times for D2D, ask your full time colleagues if they think they are being paid three times for D2D, then explain the big picture to them - do you know I bet they think they aren't being paid at all! In fact they aren't being paid for D2D at all it is a new delivery supplement, which works out less than the previous ESA and D2D payment but hey if you're getting it three fold..............

Wrong - If this is one of the reasons you urge looking at the big picture, then your reasoning,at least on D2Ds, is flawed in my opinion.
We will not get paid twice for D2Ds in fact we wont even be paid for it separately at all.
People who don't do any delivering will receive the supplement because they work in a delivery office. Yes they will help in the process of delivery but they won't be delivering. So you cant, to my way of thinking, say that the Delivery Supplement pays you for delivering D2Ds.
Our normal wages will pay for us delivering D2Ds during our working day but this simple fact of no longer paying separately for D2Ds but lifting the cap, is why people see this as a Pay Cut for more work.
Yes look at the bigger picture nothing wrong in that but its best not to try and put a certain slant on it, even if your intention is well meaning.

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
The D2D was under so much threat that they wanted the cost per item removed and the product uncapped - I could accuse you of scaremongering as I was when I suggested a 6 hour delivery on a 10 hour shift which certainly has more merit than what is being suggested - they could say we are scrapping your contracts and sending you new ones for a fiver a week - they aren't but they could say that and repeating it wouldn't make it fact.
Lets nail this D2D payment once and for all.
You are losing money after this agreement as opposed to before it - your ESA has gone, and the former 1.67p per item has been replaced by £8 for all items taking into account the ESA and that £8 you have £20.60. That of course is not the worst of it because part time members will get that only pro rata and so will stand to lose more.
Anyway you choose to portray it as a yes man it IS a pay cut.

You wouldn't need a union if you ain't got a jobi would rather be employed by a company that works along side the union , and vice versa ,than have no job and have no union at all -it works in other companies - and it works well
What support do you get from a Union after you leave?
My Brother-in-Law was fighting an Accident on Duty claim with his union. all hunky dory until he retired! The door firmly shut when he wasn't paying subs anymore!

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
Hopefully when all this is over we may get to a more balanced less contentious forum but whilst this agreement is in the offing then passions are running high particularly from those who will lose quite a lot. Those who defend it feel no less strongly for different reasons, some of those who stand to lose nothing are particularly galling - two weeks from now it will be over with and it will be the ayes or nae's who have it. I feel that it is a pity that people feel the need to leave the forum because there are differences of opinion, we've all heard the saying sticks and stones .......................
I have done my share of bear baiting and I don't deny it, but regardless of what I say there is no personal malice to anyone, I state my case as forcefully as I can, I am not always right but I would not willingly deceive anyone with erroneous facts and that is the truth, not "the truth", just the ordinary truth.
After the vote is in we'll be able to judge whether this is a good agreement if it's YES or if in truth there is no more mileage if it is a NO.
The agreement will be judged in future either way.

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
I must say Dvbuk...I like your style. In any DO it is always good to have members such as yourself with sensible,(and slightly sarcastic!), arguments. One thing that sticks out in your posts is the Part Timers. This stupid company implemented people on crap contracts.Of course with the pro-rata issues,(and it is always pro rate on everything), I will be putting them first, once,(or if) it comes in.The agreement will be judged in future either way.
Once we get an input on this geo-route,I will be making sure that they come in..bag up and go! That is how it should of been and that is how I will make it. They will,(and it is up to ALL reps),squeeze every last drop of this deal for them.
However my feeling is they were implemented over full time vacancies. That will stop too.If there is a 39 hour vacancy then it will be filled by a 39 hour vacancy, the part timer will have a choice on that, via the Way Forward......All reps, take note!!!!!!!!

Using this simplistic logic you must be thinking it will be a NO vote this time around then?smudger83 wrote: and as for the delivery staff losing out, well my dear friend i think it is a little thing called kalma, the do staff were the only ones to gain by the way forward agreement, they saw the pound signs, voted it in (they have the majority vote) and stuffed everyone else.]

While I find the idea of a leaving speech on a faceless message board somewhat melodramatic with a hint of the drama queen, the poster is still just an employee like you and I.
