Look if a delivery office manager is spending well above the tenplate for the office and using asking for part timers to work above their hours then the local rep must argue that the hours should be put into the office tenplate and if that then means that the most senior part timers are offered either more hours or a full time job.

I have to say this is janet and john stuff ether the office is working to the actual office tenplate or its not and if it is not then the hours which are being paid over the top should be made permanent .
I know you must think it dosnt happen but some area reps dont give a s**t and are looking for an easy time.
Ive pointed out to my AR that some of his decisions are not following union policy and tried to raise it higher up but no joy.

There are areas of the CWU that do nothing to inspire confidence in the membership and thats what is so worrying about aspects of this proposed deal, when you have an AR who is willing to turn a blind eye and dress it up as fair judgement.

I think what dingo fails to recognise is that at least 50% of the part time members in an office with 40% part time members are NOT members of the union - I know I find that incredibly hard to believe with the CWUs recent record still - now they don't care about the CWU, they have probably never heard of an office "tenplate" and do what is asked of them. They live in hope of more hours on a 20, 22.5, 25, 30 or 30.5 contract, having said that 50% of them are members and they have been discriminated against and so that is truly encouraging for those who aren't, and I suspect never will be.

Now how would a Rep approach a situation where a part time non union member works longer hours than he is contracted for by choice for extra money but may not want an extended contract.

Just as a matter of interest dingo are all London postmen members of the CWU? How many part time members do you administer to and if all areas were the same how would you manage to maintain full time employment on a 75/25 split, keeping 99% full time?

That will probably be counted as a cheap shot mr deeds - it may be true, but that doesn't seem to matter.

Postghost, I heard in my office last week that some part timers are soon to be made full time on driving duties.

All PT are CWU mbrs at my D.O, the same can not be said for the FT. Three are ex FT.

All the 28 hour PT moved to to 30 hour contracts at the pegasus revision and a 20 reserve hour man moved to a 32 hour day off/floater man contract. He covers 2 FT duties and 3 PT duties.

The FT/PT split for my D.O is aprox 82% FT 18% PT

I wish I worked in your DO.After pegasus no one got bumped up,duties got bigger, lapsing longer and ot had to be fought for tooth and nail.

We're about 40/60 pt/ft

A couple of sicknesses at the same time and it falls to bits, but no offer of ft to the pt work force.

We only lost one delivery, but had a buy down take place as a senior man wanted less hours for his last few years with RM

My 30 hour duty has less delivery work than when it was a 40 hour delivery duty.

We collapsed 3.Management wanted 400 hours!!!! the rep got it to 150.Since then 2 have left,3 sacked and the duties never filled.

The only silver lining for us is if it goes through they will have to look at the duties.

But since pegasus, absorption has come along which is up to two deliveries a day (same two each time)

Sadly the members not only complete their delivery each day they complete, not only do they complete their absorption as well, they make job and finish almost very day and for some its every day.

And the J and F is real not due to early start no MR. Every day I look at hours worked and compare against net working hours and the two do not tally.

J and F is very real, but since it was offered it became the mentality.People bursting their arses for the sake of half an hour.In that respect I can see why rm want the hours worked.

I'm as guilty of it as the next guy tbh.Tuesday I was back in the depot for 12 bells,in fact I haven't hit my time for a few months.I'm probably under by 4/5 hours a week, but I'm doing the workload pegasus says.

All j and f done was show rm that the job can be done at breakneck speeds, now they expect that as the norm.It should never have been agreed.

RM and the CWU need to get their act together there are so many posties who want to leave the business, why not ask these posties if they want VR or EVR and let them go and then the part time posties may have a chance of getting full time. I am a full timer, part timers have always been treated unfairly and the way things are looking some may never get the chance to become full time.

We were told in our office that at least one person would get voluntary redundancy. We were told that it would go to the most senior out of everyone who wanted it, assuming they accepted the terms. When the paper to sign came out, 50% of the office signed- yes they would like to take VR- since then we've heard nothing. This was 2 months ago, prior to the collapsing of a duty I mentioned earlier. Our line manager told us that it would only be few weeks before the offers came out. More management BS. She even told someone who phoned her up to ask what the hell was going on that the offers would be out in the next week, and that was 4 weeks ago.
When the union came round this week to tell us how wonderful the agreement is, blah, blah, blah, we asked about the redundancies, and we were told that they were on hold across the country as RM wouldn't give any more out unless the agreement gets a yes vote.

5 years ago this May some of us were invited to take buy down or EVR - well a couple of us got buy down, nobody got EVR and 5 years on nobody has had EVR. I would imagine there will not be any EVR in deliveries certainly until the MCs have been sorted, some of those will want to transfer to deliveries and then there may be a chance but I doubt it will be this year.

I have only seen two EVRs from my D.O.
To be fair one started in 1968 so "early" is pushing it a bit and the other transferred to the mail centre and then got his...does that count? :chuckle
