It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

An area manager when recently asked about the length of delivery spans said ''if you cannot walk at the required speed and length of time go and find another job'' so I don't suppose its worth approaching him about family friendly policies. This is the reality of what front line workers deal with, and there won't be any new spirit of co-operation from management.

After having a conversation with a senior manager whose attitude was "some may have to find another line of work", then I thought I had better ask if anyone had any info.
Maybe Dingo,The Truth or Lovejoy would like to comment.

Well firstly reps can use the revision process to build in these sort of duties.

Secondly if it is a genuine family friendly case (childcare etc) then the law of the land applies.... as it does now.

That would be a no then :cuppa
Its only a no if you or your representatives are completely incapable of using the agreement or the law if needed. If that the fault of CWU HQ as well??

If you lot could summon half the spirit you show on here to challenge management then you'd be ok.

I was one day away from going to an industrial tribunal regarding Family Friendly circumstances.....RM left it till the last day to even arrange a meeting. I had no support from the area rep or HQ, I HAD to go it alone.

It should be the Union(s) that are there to help secure these "flexible" working hours that are needed by some employees.

I feel it is sometimes those representing the members that are failing us (no dig at your Lovejoy). My DO rep did try and help but with no guidance from above, it was based on the information I obtained, that he tried to help. So what was the point of him being involved? None.

What actually is the stance of the CWU regarding the fight for Family Friendly hours? Was there a conference motion? Are there any guidelines? Is there any published information from the CWU?

Lets ditch these gimmick CWUTV shows and get back to the basics of looking after the members.

If it is a yes vote the of picking kids up from school is going to be one hell of a problem for RM and the knock-on effect for the Unions, cut-off, bullying etc!

Good call Redletter.
Lets get back to basics and listen to the members. Somehow I dont think that is going to happen, too many vested interests methinks.

I'd say," No, I won't go and find another job because you've decided to move the goalposts, and anyway, if I'd thought there was even half a chance of getting another job, I'd have left this shytehole long ago", if this shower of shyte ever make it known they want rid of me, they'll have to sack me, and they'd better be sure they've got good bloody reason, because I'll go down fighting. :evil/mad

Well its official in my office. "There is no scope for family friendly duties they will have to work at another office".
This is from a senior manager and she claims to have been given this response from her cluster manager.
