The agreement states last letter to be 3pm. What is the current national agreement for last letter times?

If they do this then they are leaving themselves open for getting the sack. Not only that but also a theft charge if the mail is found in their car, just like if mail was found in you house. This is because it should not be in there so how do they explain why it is in there? I do belive Royal Mail are trying to make it illigal to use your own car anyway. Its always been a grey area with insurance. At the moment people who use their own cars are suppose to just take one bag out with them and send the rest out with the driver who will in turn drop them off at your pouch boxes but what tends to happen is they take their whole round with them and work from their cars. :no no

The more staff on Saturday, the more chance everyone has of working less hours, or the day off.
If not, why not?
Local Reps are not under as much pressure now due to this crap Union idea of 'work your hours'
If you have a problem it's the same old story .. just do your hours.
As the Union keeps telling us things have to change (which we all know) , so now it is time for them to change for all of us.
I am not a rep....but what is wrong with "just work your hours?" thats all you have to do , just work your hours , what is wrong with that statement?
The problem with that statement is that your hours are going to be a 3pm finish on a saturday! :arrrghhh
That just simply not true. The current spec is 2 does that mean that everyone finishes at 2. Unless your batch of work is right at the end of the walk sequencing then the you will not be working till 3pm. The agreement states THE VAST MAJORITY OF LETTER DELIVERIES ARE PLANNED TO BE COMPLETED BY 14.30 WITH MOST BY 1400 HOURS.

Lets be honest offices will no doubt on saturdays send vans to where their mail is being sequenced in order to fast track their batches of the machine in order to ensure as early a possible finish.
Sorry, i do not understand how you fast track off the machine, it takes 3 passes to W/S, you have a batch plan for your office with a
set time your plan is run on the machine, if it was available any earlier then there would be no need for this agreement
to start later on a M-F surely, and what will be the Business Master Plan to accomodate a 9AM & 1PM spec for Specials or this
this down to the miracle working local agreement again :no no

We have a social life outside work which Royal Mail and OUR UNION are now trying to take away from us. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

nearly forgot the manager and union rep in my office are both off every Saturday ....ok for some

WOW I must be doing something wrong... I am Unit Rep and work most saturdays plus have one of the biggest rounds in my office... wont do anything I wouldnt expect another member to do, so how do I get the saturday off???? Most of the gripping about saturday longer attendence is coming from people that have season tickets and are used to getting home by 1100. How many times have we heard and not taken notice of work your hours and do the job properly, ruching round in early no meal break and using personal cars cutting corners ...some have shot themselves and the reps in the feet. :arrrghhh

You are to be commended for your attitude - the best leaders are those who lead from the front and actually do what they expect of others - a lesson that could be well learned by others.

Our delivery officers only leave at 9.10 on Saturdays and couldn't get done by 1100 even those who use their own cars - which as you say has been one of the reasons for the job to have been scrutinised adversely for some time. If there is a plus side to this agreement then banning the use of private cars is one.

To the original point. Reps should work Saturday. In some offices they have Saturday off and that is not very fair to us CWU members.

Well if we do get the 1 in 4 off for most members any rep currently not working Saturdays will probably have to - or at least face questions as to why not.

Steve a batch is appoxmately 12 walks so if you have 36 walks in an office then the first batch will be completed for the first 12 walks well before the third batch of walks so why would an office wait until the third batch has been sequenced before picking the first batch of work ?

Unless my understanding is wrong though, all mail for the walks to be sequenced is driven by the network arrival times in the M.C,
my understanding at our M.C is 60% of a D.O's mail is in the M.C before1am, the other 40% does not arrive till 4am, even then
the batch plan will only sequence mail for the time allocated for your D.O as already planned, if all mail is not sequenced it is
then crash sorted , leaving this to be sorted at your D.O. Unfortunately the point i was trying to make, was that if your units plan is due
to run between 0600 & 0640 for the final 40%, you cannot get it any earlier than the time it is due off surley

Wrong. The insurance for private cars was extended to carrying and storing mail in them on the delivery some time ago. Besides which, why on earth would anyone want to use their car when you'll have a van? (or a HCT, but that isn't going to fit in a car is it :chuckle )

Back on topic, the reps will probably get first pick of duties regardless of seniority, same as they do now.
