The British National Party will contest 326 parliamentary seats at the general election, over 120 key party officials and organisers were told today as they united unanimously behind Nick Griffin at a special meeting called to discuss recent events in the party.
The special meeting was given details — including a tape recording — of serious potential offenses committed by the former publicity director of the party, Mark Collett.
Amongst the details revealed were serious issues with regard to the pricing of leaflets and a series of front companies which appear to have been set up with the intention of skimming off printing bills, and a short snippet of a recorded conversation with Mr Collett.
The meeting decided unanimously to appoint a four man strong subcommittee to listen to the entire tape recording and report to the crowd on its full contents and implications.
Councillor Michael Simpkins, a former RAF police officer, then reported back after a break that the tape was genuine and was of a conversation between Mr Collett and party treasurer David Hannam.
Mr Simpkins said it was clear from the tape that the police would be able to investigate a number of potential crimes including threats to murder, assault, fraud and falsification of accounts.
The meeting was informed that the police were in possession of a copy of the tape which had formed the basis of the arrest and subsequent questioning of Mr Collett last Thursday.
The meeting agreed unanimously to leave the matter in the hands of the police.
A message from former party manager Emma Colgate was read out by Mr Griffin in which she warned that fake Facebook and YouTube accounts were being set up in her name with the obvious intention of sowing confusion.
All of these fake accounts should be reported as fraudulent so that they can be closed down, Ms Colgate said.
It was also announced that former national elections officer Eddy Butler was still very much with the BNP and is set to play a leading role in the party’s attempt to take control of the Barking and Dagenham council.
Newly-appointed national elections officer Clive Jefferson paid tribute to Mr Butler’s work and then outlined some new strategies he would be introducing for boosting the BNP’s vote in coming electoral contests.
Mr Jefferson also assured the delegates that there was no interruption to the leaflet production process and that a new graphic designer had already been sourced and had started work.
Mr Griffin then announced that the party would be contesting a grand total of 326 seats in the coming election.
“This is the greatest effort in the history of British nationalism,” Mr Griffin said. “This is a tribute to how far this party has come and of the tremendous dedication of all its activists. Now, let’s put this latest business behind us and concentrate on getting the nation-wreckers out of office,” he said to loud applause.

Dear Colleague
Conscience Clause
The Race Advisory Committee has recently been discussing the issue of the BNP and their likely efforts to increase their votes before the European elections. As a consequence of these discussions the issue of the ‘conscience clause’ was raised and the need to make all postal workers, particularly those who work on delivery, aware of the ‘conscience clause’ which allows a delivery person the right to refuse to deliver election material, if the material they are delivering, is considered to be offensive due to personal circumstances or beliefs or where an individual believes that delivery of a particular item may incur personal risk. However the CWU fully recognises the legal obligation placed upon the business to deliver all mail, including election material and that we will do all we can to ensure that the legal obligations are met whilst at the same time enabling those individuals who have a genuine problem to retain their dignity and for the issue to be dealt with in a fair and sensible manner.
The European elections are due to take place in early June so we can expect campaign material to begin circulating well in advance of this period.
The CWU are very keen to ensure that our members know their rights in this respect and any queries in relation to this matter should be raised with Bob Gibson’s department. We would refer you to LTB 172/05, which was sent out previously on this issue and this covers in details the agreements struck with the business in this regard. As a reminder to our members, it should be noted that the objective of the agreement is to avoid flashpoints and to ensure that there is a continuity of all services.
Yours sincerely

Every canidate(not the political party) is entitled to one free posting to each household paid for by the ministry of justice who pay RML. These are are the ones delivery staff get extra money for.
Political parties may choose to send out other elction communications as well which they have to pay the postage themselves, that means they can use DSA or RML end to end. As these are normal post we dont get extra money for them.
Expect this in the marginals.

Your opinion dos not come into it, they are a legally constituted political party, you must deliver them with same level of impartiality as other parties, you may also be asked to deliver Socialist Workers Party leaflet, you can't pick and choose.
all have the same right to the Political process, none should be silenced and supressed, as had happened when some extreme left tried to silence and drive away any BNP gatherings, they are abusing the notion of free speech and assembly, it goes both ways.

Re: Election leaflets
That clause is from 2009. This year I believe they must be delivered and people will not have an excuse not to deliver. They are classed as items of mail and if you refuse then you can be taken down the conduct code for refusing to do your job. Royal Mail have spent time making sure that none of the leaflets contain offensive material therefore there is no reason why people can’t deliver them. Your personal views should not come into it. If you are refusing to deliver a certain parties election leaflets then you are giving the other parties an unfair advantage. Who are we to decide what our customers receive?

That may be the moral question sorted (though I doubt it) but as I deliver in an area that has a high percentage of people from an Asian, Afro Caribbean, Eastern European or mixed extraction and I am there on a daily basis I feel my safety may be put at risk if I am forced to deliver BNP leaflets to these addresses. If the BNP people believe in their message so much perhaps they can run the risk of assault for their cause I wont. BTW I no of no other party that has the risk inherent in delivering their leaflets so I will deliver all others no problems even the Red Tory ones.

Postal workers are refusing to deliver British National Party election leaflets because they object to its “right-wing rubbish”.
About 100 workers in the West Country have told union leaders that they will not carry the leaflets, which bear an anti-immigration message.
They have accused Royal Mail chiefs in Bristol and Somerset of “bullying”, with one office allegedly threatening workers with dismissal if they do not comply.
The Communication Workers Union says that Royal Mail is breaking a “conscience clause” agreed four years ago that allows staff to refuse to deliver literature they find offensive.

Dave Wilshire, spokesman for the Bristol and District Branch of the CWU, said: “Over the past 48 hours I’ve had around 32 calls from individual members and those speaking on behalf of groups, saying they don’t want to deliver the material.
“That is fair enough. The clause says members don’t have to deliver material if they feel threatened or if it is against their personal beliefs.
“In Bristol we have the St Paul’s area which has a very high density of those from ethnic backgrounds. Anyone being expected to post BNP stuff through there is going to feel at risk.
“Managers in Bristol are effectively bullying people.”
He added that it was “outrageous” that some had been threatened with losing their jobs.
One postman working in the Fishponds area of Bristol, said that his route bordered two ethnic-minority areas and it was “concerning” to be made to deliver inflammatory material.
He told the Western Daily Press: “We are being forced by management to give out the BNP material even though it’s against my beliefs — everyone knows what they stand for.
“We are being made to dish out this rubbish. I’ve read the BNP literature and although there isn’t anything racist or fascist on it, it does say ‘No to immigration’.”
Workers were asked to start delivering the material this week ahead of the European elections next month.
Simon Darby, BNP spokesman, said: “We have a contract with the Royal Mail to deliver some 29 million BNP leaflets. Some will be binned by Labour-supporting postmen who want to corrupt the democratic process, but it is a question of cutting that down.
“People will make up their own minds about the Communication Workers Union telling people what to do. This is the sort of thing that is happening in Zimbabwe.”
Royal Mail said: “Where possible we will try to be flexible and sensitive to individual personal circumstances or beliefs.
“However, we need to balance this with Royal Mail’s legal obligations under the Representation of the People Act, to deliver election material.”

Just read the conscience clause, going to be a tough one if your personal safety is at risk, the Manager would have to put your health and safety first, regardless of your opinion on the contents.
Has this been tested ? if BNP have paid for this leaflet and RM don't deliver it, would we be breaking the Law ?

In my experience, racists tend to end up with mixed race grandchildren and they soon change their views.

Most BNP support is about access to council housing. If you are going to subsidise people's rent, you need to do it fairly. Either subsidise everyone's rent or only subsidise the poorest. A postman and his working wife would spend a far greater proportion of their income on housing costs if they had a mortgage than if they were council tenants. If you can get a nice council house in an area you want to spend the rest of your life in, you are laughing.

at national level the consceince clause is still there, and you cant cloud or deny this fact!!
health and safety is relevant to this and also the Belief reference is relevant. Read the agreement..
National Agreement Covering
the Delivery of Election
Material, Section 6, in full:
“It is jointly recognised that Royal Mail has a
legal obligation to secure the delivery of election
material for all nominated candidates and
parties.
Whilst it is expected that delivery will be made
by the individual due to undertake the particular
delivery, local management will deal sensitively
and sympathetically with genuine requests to
deviate from this arrangement.
Such cases may arise as a result of personal
circumstances or beliefs or where an individual
believes that delivery of a particular item may
incur personal risk.
If such instances arise alternative measures will
be used to secure delivery. These may include
the use of volunteers from within the office or
neighbouring offices to cover more than one
delivery or, as a last resort, the use of
supplementary resource.
Both parties undertake to co-operate fully in the
application of these principles and in resolving
any difficulties that may arise surrounding the
delivery of election material.”.
