Re: 100% Call Rate

Post by POSTMAN »

Don't quote me as memory is going in me old age,but i'm sure it's on here somewhere, maybe dingo or lovejoy will know more about it but at the London briefing and i'm sure the other briefings as well Bob Gibson did say something about if your peg/geo is at 80% the call rate will go up to 85ish% to compensate for timed D2D's,if your peg/geo is at 85% the call rate will go up to 90ish% ect ect.

Now the above does not make sense at all as i'm presuming the NATIONAL rate will be one rate and not various local ones.

But it does seem to me that we are no way going to get 100% call rate from RM.

But maybe as i said the other 2 can at least confirm what they know.

When my DOM tried to sell us the agreement the other week I asked the question about 100% call rates and he said I was correct in assuming that would happen.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

With a 500 call walk and your call rate is 85% then you will hit 425 doors

with 6 day split on D2D you hit ....16.66% of 500 at 100% + 83.4% of 500 at 85%.........84+354=438 or......... 87.6%
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Our dom wants a 100% call rate for saturdays as he knows that the "time specific d2ds" will probably fall most on that day but he knows he aint going to get it. He also knows we aint going to prep them when we get back anmore. Hes not happy eather

I think Daz, there is a move afoot to have individual walk-specific call rates.
Whether that is the official line or not,i don't know.

Nowt wrong with that, in theroy it helps keep duties in balance with each other. Last thing we need is one duty being given too much time and another not enough.

Thats what Geo Route is for.But if it is not taking every call into concideration when you have to go to every call with Day specific D2Ds then it wont be fare!

It is! There will not be a national or do call rate but each delivery will have its call rate assessed individually - that is the plan, whether they will have time to do that I don't know but I do know they were worried about what the call rate would be.

Take a large council estate that does not get the amount of DSA and D2D that a suburban estate gets - one could have a call rate as low as 75% the other a call rate of 87% - the prep time for each would be assessed seperately, or could be - so someone who has had a relatively easy time for some years may suddenly find he has part of a lapsed duty to prepare or deliver every day - there is nothing in this agreement to preclude that.

But if they are on a 5hr 30 min net working day and will be seeing a increase in DTD and a slower walking rate and a higher kocking on door rate there is nothing to worry about.

But why would there be lapsed duties every day, in a office where there is isnt lots of bods on sick there wont be lapsed duties every day. Revisions will set the number of duties and if extra staff are need then RML should recruit/redeploy MC staff who want to stay with RML but have become surplus.

The whole reason for the national dispute was Bulling & Harassment and this element far from making things better gives bully boy DOM's the perfect cover. 100% D2D on a Saturday with only 80 to 85% Planned in the workload.
I cannot grasp how a full time Union negotiator could not see this during 4 months of exhaustive negotiations.
How could they put forward such a poor position then try to make out it's the deal of the century?
even the flexibility element would not help this situation as the hours need to be regained within the same week.
Or are they building in an element of overtime on a Saturday to protect earnings.

if it wasn't so serious it would be laughable.

Just reading this thread makes me wonder if this agreement and all the confusion it causing is the answer to Royal Mails problems. I can see it making worse an already bad situation. Can you picture your average line manager being able to cope with call rates and figures and blah blah blah...?

In any case, call rates are irrelevant as you cant possibly know which houses you will be visiting on any given day. Averages arent the answer either as they dont give the full picture only a snapshot of it. Gawd knows how theyre going to work it all out...its madness trying aint it?

At some point Royal Mail and the CWU are going to have to accept that in this job workload varies from day to day. Sometimes theres loads of work and sometimes theres not so much. Its no good talking about call rates and %s and workloads if one day you have 8 bags (or golf trolleys worth) and another you have 4.

The question is, how do Royal Mail make sure you can complete your duty everyday whilst making you work your full hours - no more no less.

Im not sure they can.

Ah I see you are unfamiliar with the latest management modernisation initiative . Let me introduce to this groundbreaking concept, the permanently lapsed duty. In order to meet the target budget savings the required number of walks remain unmanned and with the application of a suitable amount of pressure are completed by lapsing on a daily basis( on more challenging days OT may be offered as a last resort)
