Have to say,in between all the rows and rants going on on here, you have to say the above is funny as f**k! :left:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Personally i hate working indoors.

Give me two 3.5 hour deliveries with a 1 hour break and i'd be in heaven.

You might think its mad but i'd love to miss out on the indoor work completely. Its s**t.

Just think. No more managers!

surely you applied to be a postman to be outside and not stuck indoors for your entire shift
i just cant believe you guys and neither will the public when it hits the press if the reasons for a no vote are publicised
that's the kind of question,a brainwashed postie(either by union or mangement) who will VOTE YES would ask,in my office :arrrghhh :wave

I've a suggestion = The next time it is pissin down with rain, get a shoulder bag, lob a few bricks in it, go walking for 4 hours then,
do the same again for the following 4 days, then come back & comment with some idea of what you're talking about
and why my dear friend would i wish to do this? then again give me nearly £400 pound and i would find it really attractive :Boo hoo!

Well... as you are doing only 4 hours and the net pay of a postman is around 320 you would only get 160.... now do you still find it very attractive yes??

or £240 per week and then you'll be happy.

I personally hate being inside, I'd much rather be outside delivering but the duty needs to be properly made up and not the usual management ploy of making a massive duty and just telling people to get on with it. I'm out on deliveries for 5 hours+ now and my knees and feet are now giving up on me (my poor physio is sick of the sight of me), or course 2 1/2 hours inside, 5 hours on delivery, 30 minutes travelling time and a 40 minute break means that I work 8 hours 40 minutes per day, which isin't bad squeezed into an 8 hour day.

i asked a question to which there have been some really good answers, and a lot of cynical and tongue in cheek replies, if you class that as fishing that is your point of view, however it is certainly not the reason i started this topic, i now have a greater understanding why the majority of foot posties do not wish to spend their entire shift outside, and to them i am grateful for explaining it to me

If you don't know what a delivery postie does you must walk round with your f***ing eyes closed. You must of seen the frames. Do you think we just pop into the delivery office and pick up a small bag of mail and go out for a stroll.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Yes...

Oh hang on, that's the view of some of the public isn't it...

I'll admit I "prefer" being out of the office deliveing, but when I'm pacing around at a reasonable speed for 3.5hours I'm glad when it's done.. I would not want to do 4 or 5 hours of that (in fact, if I did that 5 days a week at the speed I walk I would be f****d in a very short space of time).
Maybe when (if?) these vans ever come in it might not be as bad being out for long periods as some of the time will be spent pootling around in the van and not pacing around with a large bag over my shoulder.

I don't mind being inside a short while, even if i do have to put up with the occasional dickhead manager - at least I have access to a brew, a loo and a chat or two.....

Smudger one of the reasons I don't want to be out for gawd knows how many hours is simple mate. I am now 60 and have been a delivery postie all my working life. Yes I could do the job no trouble when I was younger and when I started H&S was non existent. Because of this a great many of us older posties suffered back strains etc.
Today I struggle round the delivery, pushing a HCT fully loaded up hills, walking up flights of steps to flats and with a longer delivery span. Guess what though mate? the younger guys can run round my delivery (crazy I know). So what do I do when even longer deliveries come in?
There is always the scrap heap as I will no doubt not be up to standard although I have been good enough for over 40 years. I can't retire really at 60 as the government now want us to work longer. they are closing down Mech offices so the chances of a job in them are remote. did work nights but they stopped that. I hope this gives you an insight into why some of us don't want to be out all day delivering and I haven't even mentioned the weather and its effect on our health.
