The difference is there's lots of businesses, shops and services etc shut on Good Friday (it being both a Bank Holiday and a religious day) who will be open again for business on Easter Saturday.
So it's a big difference
I'm sure many of their employees probally feel the same way as happymackem. :wave

I'd doubt their would be a public outcry.

I'm dreading tomorrow. For those who have worked the day after before,is it usually really really heavy? I'm assuming it is as logically there is two days worth of mail.

Maybe not, but RM have to work to the current situation rather than how happymackem etc would wish it to be.

:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle
Tman of course they do, given the ongoing outcry over the pruposed agreement, you may have noticed RM are not to opposed to change.

I expect RM would change it if they could, but PostCon feel that there should be a delivery on Easter Saturday.

Well back in my part of the world every and I do mean every Business was closed today I had to sent about 1/2 a bundle back. Even the residential drops were surprised to see me today they thought we had whole weekend off. However having the Friday off and working Saturday worked for me although I think Tuesday is going to be a banger.

Tman you are incorrect Good Friday is not a bank holiday, it is a common law public holiday. Historically, there are three types of Public Holiday in the UK, these are holidays by Royal Proclamation, common law holidays and Bank Holidays. However, most people now refer to them all as Bank Holidays.

There are two common law Public Holidays. Since these two days, which everyone assumes are Bank Holidays, were recognised as 'days of rest' by the Church of England it was not felt that they need to be included as Bank Holidays in the Bank Holiday Act of 1871. They are Good Friday (the Friday before Easter) and Christmas Day. (good this google ) This is why RM was able to declare Good Friday a non service day some years ago

There are nine statutory bank holidays across the whole of Scotland......Wrong,we only get eight
Scotland 2010 2011 2012
New Year's Day 1 January 3 January* 2 January*
2nd January 4 January* 4 January* 3 January
Good Friday 2 April 22 April 6 April ...................Wrong ,we get Easter Monday but not Good Friday
Early May Bank Holiday 3 May 2 May 7 May
Spring Bank Holiday 31 May 30 May 28 May
Summer Bank Holiday 2 August 1 August 6 August
St Andrew's Day 30 November 30 November 30 November .....Wrong,Royal Mail don't recognise it.
Christmas Day 27 December* 26 December* 25 December
Boxing Day 28 December* 27 December* 26 December
* substitute day

But other than that it looks quite official.

The claim was Good Friday wasn't a bank holiday, rather than what days RM or Scotland recognise as "days off".

I think if you are honest with yourself Tman the point you were making was that directgov was the official line.

The point i was making was that the official line is not always correct.

Sod the Church of England,

But he got that bit right.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
