well thats great we all leave the union and have no representation and the employer can do whatever they wish
looking forward to the minimum wage and 48 hours basic per week-NOT
Well, when and if it does happen you can thank Dave and Bob and the "Deal of the century"
2009 Royal Mail says it will de-recognise the union.
2010 Royal Mail forces the CWU to negotiate the most unpopular deal in the union's history.
2010 and beyond..................... Transforming Relationships etc etc.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
Blimey, where have you been these last 10 years, smudger? Royal Mail have turned our jobs upside down, inside out, and left us 60,000 people short, and with "2010 and Beyond" about to be unleashed on the long-suffering workforce, it's gonna get worse, and it's all with the blessing of the CWU.smudger83 wrote:

We may be screwed at a slower rate than we would without the CWU, but the end game is the same, we're getting screwed.

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
Why would you want to leave the union smudger?, half of your posts have just said 'Vote Yes' without any debate, so obviously you are quite happy to be walked over and lose money.smudger83 wrote: well thats great we all leave the union and have no representation and the employer can do whatever they wish

So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

It's just time for a change again. Keggie was good at first, and then lost touch, and lumbered us with a ludicrous agreement. He was replaced, and for a while things improved. But now we're back at square one. We just need to do the same thing again. It seems to me, that there is only so long, that someone can be effective at that level, before they loose touch. Don't you agree?

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
Only to a certain extent, andy. This deal has knocked all the stuffing out of me, just when I thought that now, that for once, we were going to take a step, however small, towards reversing the trend of the last decade, and actually start to improve the conditions by which our members do their jobs, along comes Billy, Dave, Bob and the gang, and wallop, yet another deal which makes our jobs that little bit harder, that actually sees a lot of our members out of pocket, and does little as far as I can see, to tackle management's first resort to the inevitable tits-up scenario, bullying and harrassment of our members, I know there's a vague hope to that end contained in that mammothly long-winded document, but really, it is something that should never be put in front of a union's membership, ever, least of all, our own long-suffering members.andy2007 wrote:

Sadly, I believe it's indicative as to how our country has changed over the last 30-odd years. No common sense, no real principles, everybody on the make, out for just themselves, very poor judgement, and I've just about had enough of swimming against the tide.
Only today, an idiot asked me when they could expect to get the £400
It destroys my soul, it really does, and for me, enough, really is, enough.

Re: The View From The Shop Floor
Well dingo almost answered the £400 question - he said by 2013 we would have a basic of £397.and some odd p - so unless there is a pay freeze in 2014 it should be then or if the 3.5% doesn't materialise it will be 2015, unless there is another pay freeze in which case........................ you know what I mean harry?DirtyHarry wrote:Only to a certain extent, andy. Only today, an idiot asked me when they could expect to get the £400, I would have expected that question from one of Thatcher's children, but the berk is a few years older than me.

As for the self determining work load and organisation here is a little snippet from the agreement:
"Both parties are fully committed to all elements of this national agreement and neither will sanction any local negotiations which seek to change the principles or spirit of this agreement and/or make their deployment less effective and/or delay implementation."
I can't be absolutely sure but to me it looks like don't try to buck the trend because you have no support from the CWU.

"This deal is really wooly, what if RM don't abide by it and the reps dig their heels in and refuse to budge"
"Ok stick this clause in and we'll spin it that it actually holds RM to the agreement"
"Genius....another biscuit?"

Still, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, as they say. Nevertheless, my gut instinct tells me we're all in for huge bouts of indigestion during the course of the next three years.
