I am number six wrote:I have to say once again that "in todays financial climate" this is a good deal for all, to secure the future of Royal Mail like every other business today they all are cutting costs too, like us they are feeling the pressures of this recession.

I would urge you all to vote yes to this agreement, not only will it secure your future, it will also secure the future of the business

Keep up the good work lovejoy and hopefully people will see what is right and reap the benefits
I entierly disagree with you. We went on strike because RM were using Pegasus and IWT without agreement and giving employees unmanageble workloads, with operational managers harrassing and bullying anybody unable to cope, or work complulsary overtime.

Royal Mail also achieved a defacto increase to the delivery span through the use of imposed pegasus revisions via EA.

The CWU national policy was for local units not to agree to these revisions. and not to agree to increased delivery spans, "to force Royal Mail to the negotiating table" The vast majority of units followed the policy, and RM were forced to the negotiating table.

The Proposed agreement now accepts the use of pegasus and IWT....okay not a problem there. But the agreement does not specifiy the performance standards to be used, and even when those standards are derived They will not form part of the agreement!! Thats a major problem for me! .......if RM don't abide by the performance standards that come out of the work shops will they be breaking the agreement?? :hmmmm NO! :d'oh!

Further more the agreement has abolished delivery spans, it's not just that there is no longer an nationally agreed delivery span, this agreement prohibits locally agreed maximum delivery spans! Again thats a major problem for me! .....If RM, at some point in the future increase you delivery span to 5hrs 30mins and this is not part of the 'menu' of options will they be breaking the agreement??? :hmmmm NO! :d'oh!

These are the things we went on strike for, and not only have they not been addressed, This agreement makes them far worse! :evil/mad This has sweet FA to do with "todays fianancial climate" But i assume by that you mean the paycut......sorry delivery supplement.

"very simple this will enable people to keep in employment

How much explaining does that need?? "

Tell that to the 50% of Mail Centre staff who will lose their jobs and don't forget the people who will be forced out because they want their Saturdays or they don't want to work with a partner.

Do you remember the strike?

The reason for striking was to put an end to bullying and management by fear. This proposed deal does not solve the bullying issue. It is a disgrace.

Vote No.
If people leave the business they may have to work 9-5 anyway

Working with a partner is a H&S improvement

it's not a case of bullying management, it's a case of survival

Strikes will not change or improve this agreement again it has been agreed with the CWU your union who has our interests at heart

Vote yes and secure a bright future

You's are kind of making his point about being insulted for disagreeing.........This also makes it easy to run away from the argument, let him debate, the agreements so bad, what is there to post to make it sound good.

What is the threat and who are the ones most in danger?

I am assuming the threat is privatisation when the postal market becomes fully open to competition after 31.12.10.

The ones most under threat are the surplus managers and the union bureaucrats. These are the people who are trying to convince those who do the real work that they should be frightened.

This is a line I have heard from local managers. One told me that by joining the union you sign away your rights to negotiate and that whatever your rep agrees to, you have to go along with. This was a middle ranking manager who gave his managers very little information and told the rep not to discuss any proposals because it would break confidentiality.

This proposed agreement is all about the CWU trying to survive by showing management that its staff controlling capability makes it indispensible.

When was the last time anyone saw a non member with different pay, T&Cs to union members after negotiating ( and getting ) a seperate deal with management ( of any level )? I thought if everyone got the same pay, T&Cs wether you're in the Union or not   .....maybe it's different for Unite members, so your local mgrs might actually be right for once MoC :left:

They are right, but what do you do if your rep refuses to pass information on to his members and senior managers refuse to inform junior managers?

My management has used local agreement as an enabler for tyranny. The problem lies with the seductiveness of power. Local agreement has given our rep a taste of power and he likes it. As I have said before, our unit is run on the basis that the mostly immigrant minority of the evening shift do most of the work. There is not much chance of voting our rep out. Our office is a reflection of the New Labour model, proudly ignorant people are given money and power while educated immigrants are forced to work like slaves for low wages.

The rep should be representing the members' views. How can the members have a view on something they don't know about?

Ongoing actions that make more work for the Moderators and Administrators or regularly annoy other members and require moderator action will not be tolerated. If banning you is easier than dealing with the problems you are causing, you will be banned.

If someone has a different position to you please respect their right to have differing views, and enjoy yourself when picking holes in their position in a constructive way. We would much rather have a long winded well thought out argument, picking out weak points in someone's position, than have a thread full of 1 line insults.

Do not hijack threads for a flame war and do keep to the original topic, having a lot of off topic posts in the threads is no good to any one. POSTMAN or the Moderators will first post warnings in any thread that does go excessively 'Off Topic' and ultimately may lock it.

If you suspect anyone of trolling do not respond to their posts as this will only encourage them. Most internet trolls post objectionable material or opinions just to get a reaction, if members do not respond then a troll will get bored and leave. If you believe a member is trolling then PM Postman or one of the Moderators.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
