Firstly to all those people (especially the ones in my office) that over the years have come in early, used your cars, not taken your breaks, not claimed over time and thrown mail in the previous day for the next day I would like to say a big thank you. You I believe are a massive reason why we are in the state we are in. You maybe work 50 hours a week for 40 hours pay. I'm not even going to ask why you do it. But Royal Mail with their facts and figures will show you can do all the work required of you within time the time allocated. Obviously you clearly can't as your coming in early to make up for it. Think Royal Mail will take that on board? Think again!

In my office the the agreement has not even been voted in yet (Lord forbid!) but the managers are working of some flexibility agreement. They are splitting up duties and adding bits and pieces onto other duties. My rep told me the reasoning for this is quite simple. A senior manager knows that if he adds more onto certain duties people will come in even earlier and if their over their time will not claim! So whenever Joe Bloggs says his duty is big enough and can't take anymore, management will say but Tom's duty is the same size as yours and he is taking the extra. And Joe says but Tom comes in early and doesn't claim overtime. He might as well be talking to the wall. Royal Mail know people come in early and don't claim overtime but this is never took into consideration when sums are being done.
Until this problem is addressed those who do their job right will always be on the losing side. Yes I know this agreement has a ban on cars which is a solid start. It's not enough though. Anything and everything which Royal Mail get for free has to come to a complete stop. Probably too late now though. As I have already said if people get more added on to them some of them will come in early or/and not claim overtime.

How can we win when there is so many people working for free up and down the country? I dread to think what the actual hours nationally a week are worked for free!

How can we get an agreement to benefit us all when so many people will still work for free?

we done away with cars on delivery during last strike 2 years ago, f up our office up a treat 5 extra jobs 10 new vans etc, but still the flyers and early starters done their bit, belting out as fast as they could, try telling them why rush you now got a collection thats timed made no diff, as for pdas they make no diff at all to where or when you are, they jut a pain nother cheap purchase, screens breaking up, things crashing etc. would clocking in and out help? dunno there would stop idiots rushing back in , a hour at home hiding is better than going back hour early i guess as long as you not caught, best to do job by the book,ok may take you longer but no comebacks, anyone have probs with mnagers phoning or knocking you while on leave to work? we now getting that often here

We got people at our place who come in at 5:30 even though they start at 615 on days when the mech only comes at 6:45 regularly - they sort flats and do packets for fackall, just on the offchance a truck comes early - they take it in shifts running outside every 5 mins or so to see if a lorrys been !! I know this coz I start at 5:30 due to FF ....

They come in Mon/Tue @ 5:30 ,chuck in their 1 mech bundle, then do ips till like 745 !! Chuck their rounds in for like 8:30 then chuck the lapsing rounds in, then sit around from 9:00 till 9:50 until were allowed to leave :left: WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE FUDS !!

Thing is, no matter how many pennies they get, or what hours theyre paid till, THEYLL STILL COME IN EARLY EVEN AFTER THE CHANGES COME IN !! :mad
you work with some very sad people :arrrghhh i did :chuckle at they take it in shifts running outside every 5 mins or so to see if a lorrys been !!

It isn't difficult to understand that there are some sad people in this world who really do not have a life outside of work.
We have one who comes in at 6am (a good 2 hours before his start time) and after his delivery sits around in the DO until the PHG kicks him out to lock up.
12 hours at work but paid for 6.
Pity them, don't mock them.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If our office is anything to go by there must be quite literally thousands of posties throughout the country putting in hours upon hours of unpaid work. What is the value of that to Royal Mail?

Just plucking a figure out of the air, suppose it’s 25,000 posties and each hour is worth £8+ to RM then that would be in excess of £200,000 a day! Would RM be able survive without the generosity of those prepared to work an hour or more for free?

I'm not saying that it makes it right but food for thought, maybe?
So you're assuming that everyone who starts early works until their time? :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

Free time for RM - I don't think so, you'd have to be brain damaged to do that. More like start early and be home even earlier :chuckle

How about the people constantly working over, when their duties aren't long enough to justify it? Do you not think that RM is more interested in tackling this by bringing in a set of performance standards? So to the ones who think they're clever by doing the moonwalk around their deliveries to prove a point, well done - you've managed to ruin it for everyone.

100% right. They're the ones shuffling around until 4pm then spending the rest of the day on a forum about it :chuckle
