What is more true with this agreement than ever before though is the difficulty is judging how individual members will vote!

You mean to say that with all the expense of the road show and the time allowed for meetings there is still a possibility that individuals are NOT swayed by the snake oil salesmen - and Lovejoy just had the recommendation for our Branch confirmed as a NO.

My theory for what it is worth is that this deal does nothing for the rank and file and even if it is voted through the NO voters will be less than enthusiastic in agreeing any changes in a hurry - especially with such a paltry amount on offer - the branch may say yes but the man from delivery he say NO and that is where the changes are expected to be. The next thing you know there'll be ballots for IA.

The trouble with that is RM spent the last 12-18 months treating members like this and only certain areas had the balls to stand up. Your's wasn't one of them from memory so what will be the difference this time?

There are bigger issues at stake here lovejoy than EA, one is the relationship between the union and Royal Mail. We had EA by complicity, the union changed horse mid stride, and don't give me the old we are strong bullshit, you were nowhere without the national vote and even now by all accounts the issues from November are still being thrashed out with ACAS - so much for strength - and if this deal goes through do you think it will get better?

Places like ours have less to fear than others, we have abided by the spirit of 2007 unlike some but they will reap the whirlwind if they let this in.

The union have far more to gain than the membership - we will be left hanging as we were whilst RM steamrollered through change. The Area and Div reps are weak willed in this area but the membership isn't and nobody should take recommendations too seriously because the individual will decide this vote.

Indeed dvb much thought and expense has gone into an attempt to secure a Yes vote but it would appear very little thought has gone into the repercussions of said acceptance although the agreement does have this little snippet...

"Both parties are fully committed to all elements of this national agreement and neither will sanction any local negotiations which seek to change the principles or spirit of this agreement and/or make their deployment less effective and/or delay implementation."

It would seem Royal Mail has thought of everything even if HQ cannot.

Thanks for that FT - I hadn't seen it but it only confirms that the CWU has indeed become just the another arm of RM management - the tragedy is we are actually paying them for the privilege of being sodomised.

won t be paying them for much longer if this comes in,at our office we had a meeting before our rep went to the meeting with ward and co he was instructed to vote no and ask for a vote of no confidence in the union leadership spineless git abstained from the vote

Many have yet to have branch meetings and are quite rightly gathering information from unit reps on the feelings of ordinary members.
My branch will meet on,of all days april 1st and a decision will be made then.

I find it odd that branch officials can announce a recommendation without taking into account the wishes of the membership - there are two reasons for this - it is undemocratic and it may give the impression that the membership accept the agreement

Pressure,pressure,pressure.
HQ pressures division to accept,
Division pressures branch to accept,
Branch pressures local reps tp accept,
Local reps pressure members to accept.
It is a rather upside down version of democracy when the last people given a chance to declare their interest in the agreement are the ordinary members.

How about we give this a chance.
Members inform local reps of their position,Local rep informs branch,branch informs division and division informs HQ.
I always thought that was how a democratic union worked but what do i know i'm wearing a tinfoil hat in case Big Dave can read my thoughts.
