Quite simply put it isn't good for anyone BUT it cannot be denied that there is an emphasis placed on the London issues apart from everyone else and that is a bad thing - sometimes it isn't what is written but HOW it is written that offends the sensibilities of other areas - you cannot be saying CWU London, Royal Mail London and expect there not be a reaction to the inference that they are separate entities with separate issues and separate resolutions.belle smith wrote:Your not offending me im not from London. But the deal is the same for all of us, if it's crap for the rest of us, why would it be good for London???gazzariah wrote:I DO OFFER MY APPOLIGIES IF I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE HEATED BUT THE ISSUSUE IS BECOMING VERY CLOUDED WE ARE ABOUT

Re: London makes progress
I have to say apart from Belle Smith the level of debate on this post has been nothing short of a disgrace. Some of the posts prove some people are not trade unionists and not intrested in the collective union only in themselves.
Some of you are live in some fantasy land. Where in the post did I say that London was going to either support or reject an agreement ?, The way we always do things in London is that Branch Committees make decisions after consulting with the reps and members and then we have a discussion on the Divisional Committee to see whether their is a concensus and then if there is we put out central comms , if there is not we put out comms to members stating they should support their Branch recommedation.
We have done this under every agreement. Sometimes on major agreements we have all agreed ,sometimes we have not. In fact only 9 Branch`s in the whole of th uk voted by a members majority against Pay and Mod in 2007. Three of them were in London.
A lot of posts have been put up asking for an update on London and I gave you that update.
Now TBT and others the postal executive carried a policy at the meeting when the agreement was endorsed which said a ballot would not go out until the interim agreement issues were resolved. Whilst London had the most problems , other branchs have now resolved their issues. This is not looking after London is was recognising that the interim issues had to be resolved.
Now lets get one thing straight , London took 20 days strike action most members losing on average £1500 on behalf of this union and had we and others not done so we would not be talking about an agreement we would be talking of Royal Mail continuing to impose things on the workforce.
Another thing anyone who believes the strikes started and ended with two days of national action then again they are wrong. Some of us was in a bitter dispute. The tactic was to attempt to slag off the London membership becuase if they got enough members in the uK to believe the rubbish then they could destroy the whole o the union. People in the East of Scotland , Bristol , Plymouth , Thetford , Network and many others didt believe this was about London it was about their future.
No one went on strike in support of London only , they went on support for their futures.
In fact there is still bitterness in London that a lot of mail centres which we have list to prove did our work on overtime when we were on strike . Hardly supporting London and hardly in the best of trade union traditions.
Another thing some one said wait till London mail centres start closing. Well where have you been in 1994 London had 10 mail centres now we have 3 . However we fought for people and we achieved an agreement which became the MTSF agreement nationally.
Some of you are a disgrace to slag off the London membership who were willing to keep taking strike action months before some of you did. By all means have a go at me, that is fine and expected but dont slag of people who suffered great hardships fighting for this union along with other brave members. If London , the East of Scotland and others had not taken strike action then the natonal strike would have been a lot longer. After all the interim agreement was almost there before the national strikes started and it was only the leaked newsnight document which stopped those talks and caused the first national strike.
Dirty Harry your more then welcome to come tomorrow and make your points thats what being in the union is all about , debates , judgement and unity. The altrernative and some of you are bordering on is fascism which only allows for one view.
With regards to Tooting they reached an agreement to retain the 4 day week in early January.

Dingo, we went on strike to have national agreements the proposal in front of us, now means more things will be agreed locally if agreed at all! ie delivery spans.dingo wrote:No one went on strike in support of London only , they went on support for their futures.
The CWU national position at the begining of the 2007 strike was that "Royal Mail wants everyone isolated and divided" by the time HQ wanted a yes vote that had changed to "best of all you'll get a say locally"
Not speaking for anyone else, but local agreements are not what i went on strike for.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

we are not talking about a national agreement simply because london walked out, we all took action on that matter.dingo wrote:Now lets get one thing straight , London took 20 days strike action most members losing on average £1500 on behalf of this union and had we and others not done so we would not be talking about an agreement we would be talking of Royal Mail continuing to impose things on the workforce.
.
you state how much you lost within london by striking but you've not said exactly how much extra you get each year for being there in the first place, care to expand on that ?

Re: London makes progress
Dingo I think most people will applaud any worker willing to sacrifice their livelihoods in an industrial dispute and the hit London workers took last year was courageous and inspiring. We applauded them at the time and saw the importance of their stance. But now it looks like they are getting preferential treatment while the rest of us who also went out will sufffer great hardship with poor local agreements. Don't you think we bloody well have a right to be angry about it?
You might not have realised but the vast majority of posties live and work outside London. You have a strong and proactive workforce there with strong reps which means you will get good local agreements - BUT A LOT OF THE REST OF US DON'T AND SIMPLY WON"T.
So who is going to protect us from unagreeable DOM's???? Not this Agreement and not you. We can't pretend RM are now all sweetness and light. Any Agreement needs to protect our rights and conditions this one signs them away. And having said that, even with a rock hard offfice it will still make the London posties job far worse - 4 days or not.
Go ahead and shoot yourselves in the foot London.

Re: London makes progress
Comming from an office up hear in Scotland (Irvine) who took 17 days of I/A before this interim agreement came to pass and who would have continued for much longer if the need arised, we as an office were forced back to work knowing our branch were let off the hook not having to deal with the local feckin problems,to date we still have no resolution to our outstanding issues and believe me its not for the lack of the local rep or area rep trying to get rm to move and abide by the interim agreement.
So my question Dingo is what happens to an office who stood up to rm and then was left with f**k all support from our branch Glasgow and District or the national officers we got in contact with, we stupidly believed this time it would be different and rm would resolve all issues under the interim agreement.
Now any future agreement will be abused in our office in particular and that's all to do with a weak branch not dealing with rm management or caring for the so called members there supposed to represent so dingo i'm glad you got your issues resolved by sticking together but up here we have no chance with this branch and if the CWU hierachy insist on ignoring what's going on then why not give us our rule13 and we'll defend ourselves we were doing a pretty good job of it before instead of all the failed promises.
