Not specifically BNP, don't forget, but anything you have a moral objection to, or one that causes you concern for your own safety.

For full details on the Conscience Clause see http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... on#p159320" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I did wonder about this, I have no love for the BNP but being able to opt out of delivering it doesn't seem right. I mean even tho they are a bunch of w*****s they are still a legitimate political party. If I can opt out of the BNP ones I want to opt out of the Tory, Labour, Liberal etc as well. Is this possible? Or am I gonna have a fight on my hands trying to get out of doing them?

If you have a genuine reason not to deliver them as per the below quote, then yes you can refuse. But YES you will have a fight on your hands if you refuse to deliver any of the mainstream or more popular parties.

6) Special Circumstances

It is jointly recognised that Royal Mail has a legal obligation to secure the delivery of
election material for all nominated candidates and parties.

Whilst it is expected that delivery will be made by the individual due to undertake the
particular delivery, local management will deal sensitively and sympathetically with
genuine requests to deviate from this arrangement.

Such cases may arise as a result of personal circumstances or beliefs or where an
individual believes that delivery of a particular item may incur personal risk.

If such instances arise alternative measures will be used to secure delivery. These may
include the use of volunteers from within the office or neighbouring offices to cover more
than one delivery or, as a last resort, the use of supplementary resource.

Both parties undertake to co-operate fully in the application of these principles and in
resolving any difficulties that may arise surrounding the delivery of election material.

You might have a fight on your hands but you might not.
I won't deliver BNP leaflets. I understand that I won't be allowed to work my day off for one day at least so someone else can deliver those leaflets.
I am sure the person doing them would be happy to do 4 or 5 sets just for the money. They have to go everywhere anyway and the leaflets don't exactly weigh much.
If however you have delivered the leaflets in the past they may question your motives for opting out now.
I never delivered the BNP leaflets even when I didn't know about the conscience clause, and opting out of one meant opting out of all of them and the financial loss that entailed.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

cant uderstand if you wish to opt out of delivering bnp leaflets, why this automatically means you miss out on delivering the other ones??
this surely means you are being penalised for your beliefs.
plus election material should be delivered 1 party per day, this would give you scope to maxamise your earnings on the other parties.

Election leaflets are covered by their own seperate from DTD national agreement. This agreement has not been altered in ayway by 2010 and beyond.

GE leaflets will be done as per euros last year.

RML did offer a buy out offer which was a extra £1 a week on basic pay and no payments for election material.

CWU turned down the offer as we are so close to the GE and with the chance of a hung parliment potentially meaning another election before the end of the year it was not the right time to say yes.

So the question is boys and girls once the election is done and settled, would you wish to switch or not?

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. In years past we were told that you couldn't opt out of delivering one party's leaflets. Either you did all of them or you did none.I chose to do none.
I realise now he was a lying toerag. In the days of a six day week this would have caused him a lot of hassle to find someone to deliver one set of leaflets. Far easier to find someone to deliver 10/12 sets.Same work roughly but much more money.
I realise now that I can opt out of delivering one set (though no thanks to my rep). The fact I was prepared to take the financial hit before means they couldn't question my motives or integrity.
When I discovered the conscience clause (actually my wife did) I questioned my DOM and he agreed I could opt out of delivering BNP leaflets but asked me not to tell anyone in the office. :left: :left: :left:
One (only one  ) colleague also opted out of delivering them and they gave him a harder time because he had delivered them in the past as he wasn't prepared to accept the financial loss of not delivering them all.
I can't believe my office is the only one in the UK where this s**t goes on.The CWU doesn't exactly promote the conscience clause.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

General Election 2010: Isle of Wight
Justice

Andrew Turner (Isle of Wight, Conservative)

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what estimate he has made of the cost to the public purse of transporting election literature for Freepost delivery from the Isle of Wight to Portsmouth; and what requirements there are on candidates to declare the cost of delivering election literature.
Hansard source (Citation: HC Deb, 30 March 2010, c1080W)Email me when Michael Wills speaksMost recent apperancesNumerologyFull profile ...

Michael Wills (Minister of State, Ministry of Justice; North Swindon, Labour)

Under section 91 of the Representation of the People Act 1983 ("the 1983 Act"), candidates at parliamentary elections are entitled to send free of charge for postage either one election communication to each elector, or one to each household, in the constituency in which they are standing, subject to any reasonable terms and conditions specified by the universal service provider (the Royal Mail). The cost of the delivery of candidates' election communications to UK addresses by the universal service provider is met by the Consolidated Fund. The Government have made no estimate of the cost of transporting election literature from one location to another for onward delivery by the universal service provider under the provisions of the 1983 Act, since these costs are not met from the Consolidated Fund.
Under the provisions of the 1983 Act, within 35 days after the day on which the result of the election is declared, the election agent of every candidate is required to deliver to the appropriate officer a statement of election expenses incurred by or on behalf of the candidate. Election expenses are those which are used for the purposes of the candidate's election and are incurred in respect of matters listed in Part 1 of schedule 4A of the 1983 Act. Under that schedule, expenses in respect of unsolicited material addressed to electors include design costs and other costs in connection with preparing, producing or distributing such material.

think the BNP won't be much of a problem ? http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010 ... ck-griffin" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; "Nick Griffin is constantly claiming he is the leader of a moderate, non-violent organisation," the Searchlight spokesman said. The General Elections going to be on the 6th of May. According to the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8603591.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Gordon Brown is going to see the Queen tomorrow to get parliament disolved. I expect we will see tons of political leaflets being sent out now between now and then.

Your opinion dos not come into it, they are a legally constituted political party, you must deliver them with same level of impartiality as other parties, you may also be asked to deliver Socialist Workers Party leaflet, you can't pick and choose.
all have the same right to the Political process, none should be silenced and supressed, as had happened when some extreme left tried to silence and drive away any BNP gatherings, they are abusing the notion of free speech and assembly, it goes both ways.
