I will be as disapointed as anyone if the ballot comes back a Yes vote, but I will stay in the CWU as long as im working for RM.
As bad as this deal appears to be, can you imagine what the job would be like without a union?

And how many of those who say they will leave will be back when they need the services of a rep?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: If it's a YES vote, will you GENUINELY leave the CWU?
I work in an office with 350 or so employees, around 50 (including myself) are non-union members.
I have been a Postman for almost 12 years, but withdrew my Union membership in 2003 when I had to represent myself at an Employment Tribunal due to the C.W.U deciding not to represent me after I had been dismissed for a number of absences.
I was a lifelong union member until 2003, but genuinely always felt that I was paying subs every week for no real good reason (and I could always do with that £150 a year in subs anyhow) - but by being a Union member this meant that if the worst came to the worst I would have support from my Union.
A general misconception is that a non-union member cannot go on strike in support of their colleagues, this is not true. I have never crossed a picket line.
I know that a lot of my colleagues are becoming disillusioned with both the C.W.U and Royal Mail in general, and the choices we are facing in the near future will not make Royal Mail a better place to work.. it seems to me that we are currently going round and round in circles.
I for one just want to put letters through doors - and have had enough of all the bullshit.

I left the union about five years ago after being let down by them at area and hq level, i was a union rep and h&s rep when attending meetings area reps were more concerned about getting perks for themselves and not the members. I manage to stand my ground against the so called management employment law applies to everyone you just have to know how to use it. most RM managers are failed postman and 90% of the time cant handle sticky situations, just play them at their own game but always watch your back this in my experience applies if your in the CWU or not .

The Union has left US.
It's CWU HQ that have made the break from representing our interests to representing their own. The position of CWU in the workplace is assured by this agreement but not our health and wellbeing. Why would you be a member of a 'representative' organisation that is in bed with your employer? Their common intrests are now alligned, and we need independance for fairness.
I will be leaving even after a No vote for a minimum of 1 month and would urge anyone to do the same to make sure the message gets through to their Ivory Tower.

I don't think many people will be criticising the local reps for this diabolical deal, HQ have to take responsibility. Yes a lot of local reps do valuable work, that doesn't mean we can't tell HQ to FO.clashcityrocker wrote:And how many of those who say they will leave will be back when they need the services of a rep?

I can give you a bit of advice on how to make your lawn look good but I won't maintain it for you.
If there is a lot of moss on it, treat it with lawnsand. Do this on a dry day when rain is expected soon. When it turns black, rake off all the s**t and then aerate it with your garden fork. You can put grit in the holes.

I left the union about 4 months ago. I could see where it is going. If it wasn`t for the recession G B would have privatised us before the election, now we`ll be privatised after the election who ever wins. The union are fighting for their lives and existance that`s why they`ve sold their soul to the devil,
