Oh I know about it alright, or don't you think the results of trials (good or bad) gets around?
You weren't there either, not being Processing, so I wouldn't dig an even deeper hole by making accusations of lying, if I were you.
Presenting gossip and hear-say as the truth, now that could be construed as lying.... ;liar
I would listen to Tman - If anyone knows about lying its him, you've only got to look back through his post's. :left:

Is that so?
Care to highlight one, and explain why, or prove, it's a lie?

So the results of trails "gets around" would that be through gossip or hear-say? :wave

Now what would be the point of having a trial if the results aren't tabulated and reported?
Rather different and more accurate than some delivery postie's "wot I 'eard" though.

Try again... :wave

We have them, the problem I find is when mail arrives late from the M/C there's not enough time to sequence the mail.
Then WSM are doing the same job as the old mech machines (sure someone knows the correct name for them). You are then faced with a box or two of unsequenced mail which you've been waiting for, to prep into a frame full of flats and D2Ds.
Saving no time at all :arrrghhh
Granted the machines work and work well, but untill the majority of mail can be sequenced and ready on time i cant see them making the savings RM are looking to save.

They work fine ,but if you are experienced and are familiar with the walk then the time saving is negligible ,max 10 mins.
10 mins, thats what you save but don't forget to offset the time costs and that's when it all looks very odd.
Conveyance time / processing time(3- 4 runs)all on top of the existing mech runs. Then factor in the increased inward sorting required because these new machines simply reject a lot of walksorted mail which will turn up at your DO as mixed trays(that is the down side of more sophisticated machinery ,it spews out anything not quite up to scratch)
Any sequence operators out there ? Let us know how long it takes to process a batch of 12 walks ? What is the % reject rate ? Just curious

Yes it did, but you said-

Nah...we tested them and they were cack; although some offices have reported success.
Loads of miss sorts/ unsequenced mail and it took forever, past 11am one day, for the mail to get off the machines.
They were dumped after 3 days.

Which is rather different (and BS).

Now now girls, no fighting :no no

Can we agree that whatever happened if there was a failure it was because we work for Royal Fail, it's what they do best. :dance

It takes about 40 minutes to sequence 5000 items into anything from 10 to 19 walks depending on the batch. The average reject rate is around 2% - 3 %. About half of the rejects are "out of plan" that is mail that has ended up in the wrong batch at the Mail Centre, the rest of it is short codes, badly printed codes or just letters that the machine throws out for no apparent reason.

We have never understood why mail that has gone through the 1st pass then gets rejected on the 2nd or 3rd. Been trying for 3 years to get an answer.Surely if the reader recognises the code once how come it rejects it next time round ???

Thank you for the reply 24601.Can the sequencing machines really do 19 walks at once, union bods think the limit is 12, how many trays fit in?
Interesting that it's only 3% rejects ,it does seem like more on IPS ,adds about 15 mins, still thats 3% more IPS than you got before walk sequencing :chuckle

They are only limited by the amount of delivery points. 19 walks with less calls are possible.

We have two of these machines in our office and jeass what a ball ache!!! We used to get off the ips and have all our code sort thrown in by 9.30am now we dont even get our walk sequenced mail of the machine until 9.45am!!! At the moment we are sorting mail for our office and one other but soon we are going to sort the mail for another two so 4 offices in total. They cant even cope with 2!! We have more IPS to do now because of the rejects and the four people who operate the machines are full timers who have gone onto nights so we have lost four people off the IPS.
One of the machines broke down the other day so one machine had to do twice the work this meaning people were leaving for delivery at 11.30am.
At the moment we are paid in our office from 5.45am till 2.45pm on Thursday & Friday (longs and shorts) and people are still booking Ext Delivery so when they take and hour of us (When they want us to work 7am-3pm) and give us bigger rounds plus more D2D's how the hell is that going to work??? :arrrghhh
