Re: limit on D2D is there one
Let's put it this way the upper weight limit's were why we never had to deliver these and many more items those who worked in the early 90's and before had items of similar weights and bulky silver NTL ROLLS nor forgetting shampoo and packets of seed!. So we now abandon these agreements and let us see what will happen!. FOR NOW YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS WILL BE FELT LONG AND HARD BY ALL!.

After all, there's not much point Saga sending stuff to houses rented out to students, or to anyone that does not fit their typical customer profile. That would, quite literally, be a huge waste of money.
What about DfS REGULARY due mail shots to EVERY HOUSE ,Only a couple of weeks ago thick A4 -every house.
Supposing HomeBase OR someone else special mail shot all going out on a Saturday.[/quote]
Because EVERY house has a sofa, perhaps ? And they need replacing at some point ? Short of sending spies in to see the state of your sofa, they can't know whether it needs replacing, so they mailshot everybody. Some companies, in a recession, see advertising as an expense to be cut. Others will spend more, in the hope of getting extra custom from the money spend on extra advertising.
Even if there is an explosion in D2D items, how on earth can it be a bad thing for job security, if we have more work coming RM's way. Is it not delivering mail that pays our wages ???
Do the job properly, work your hours, and not a minute more. Simples

Sorry dont know about where you live, ours have always been targeted at specific addresses, not blanket approach, truth be known-kendo1 wrote:Really ?headscrewedon wrote:I think the fear that loads of companies will suddenly switch from addressed mail to unaddressed d2d mailings is a bit wide of the mark. When unsolicited mail first started becoming a widely-used way to advertise directly to people, it was very imprecise and companies had a 'scattergun' approach of targeting every house, regardless of whether the occupants would be likely to buy their products.
They have since got a lot more sophisticated at identifying who is likely to be a buyer of their product(s) and targetting the specific houses where previous and potential customers live. This reduces the overall size of the mailing, but more importantly greatly reduces the cost to the advertiser too. I don't see how the cheaper d2d product would be a good choice for those kind of users of (addressed) direct mail. Millions of items at a slightly cheaper price vs targetted mailing of 200,000 homes ? Direct mail is more cost-effective.

Is that why I get D2Ds advertising mortgage offers to the council estate I deliver to! And No they all hadn't been sold in the Maggie Thatcher House Sale of the Century scheme

Just a thought...Most people do all there D2D over 5 days but in this deal whoever works your day off will have to do some as they will get there money. I know that might sound daft but some people do the lot and the day person doesn't.

One of the interesting discrepancies of this deal is that the floater will always have D2D on a saturday but the dutyholder will not.

Hi woofwoof & fishtank, You both have very good points. One thing you may like to think about is that the floater may not work Saturday's. As it is now in our office the floater gets Sat off as he has been messed around on different duties all week. On the other hand when and if this deal comes in that may well change. trouble is not all offices are the same and whilst that sometimes is a good thing it can also be not so good.

The majority of my customers are pensioners yet I still have to deliver bloody LearnDirect garbage. Like theyre going to look for a new career at 80.headscrewedon wrote:

Re: limit on D2D is there one
Following that logic D2D would never exist.headscrewedon wrote:I realise that, but the same question still applies. Millions of items vs a targetted mailing of 200,000 homes ? Logically, there must be a price structure that would make the cost of sending millions of weighty items massively prohibitive vs a more targetted mailing. Otherwise, a shrewd operator like Murdoch would already be blitzing every house with a Sky mag if doing that was cheaper than an addressed, targetted mailing, surely ?viking wrote:i didnt actually mean these catalogues in my initial post, i said the size and weight of..using them as an example
