The 24 hours I am on is crap, lucky to clear £180 per week with d2d's, I do get the option of working my day off every now and then but just having a sunday off is a kick in the teeth. I've also found that when I start at 8am most of the time my round isnt thrown out so have had to that most days and when I go to book overtime for it they pull there faces and tell me I will have to cut it out. I dont do it on purpose, I jsut want to do my job and get home as early as poss but they do there best to make me go over my finish time and then moan when I do. What would happen if if it got to 1pm and still had 2 bags of mail to deliver do I just take it back to the office (Which is usually locked by then) Only started 12 weeks ago so sont know all the do's and dont's. I hate having to rush about but find I have to do it to finish within my hours.

interesting point about office being locked when you get back. i have always said a manager should be in office until last person is back. what happens in emergencies. i.e accident , sudden illness , assault ,etc. if no one about who do you contact ?. does any manager care ? not likely . too busy having liquid lunch discussing how to to wind everyone up day after. :mad

I thought H&S rules stated that there has to a 'Person in Charge' for any emergencies, check your H&S poster in office (it's a legal requirement to display one)..

Hello and welcome JAMESMARSH1980 - good on you joining the union and get that rep working for you.

Spedley the contracted hours are strange all over just from posts on here people are on

1 hour, 20 hours, 25 Hours , 30 Hours, 33 Hours 35 Hours, and 40 Hours - In my DO we have 1 on 15 hours 1 on 20 hours and the rest on the old 30/40 hours contract. No wonder RM mangers are stressed they can't keep up with who should be in and he should be off with all these different contracts.

contracted hours

Post by baldrick »

When we were shown the Crozier video and 'business plan' it included proposals for 'bankable hours'. According to our manager this would mean working only when or as required. So if there was not much work in the office they could send you home after the work was cleared, even if it was only a couple of hours, and you would then owe them the balance of the contracted hours, which they could ask you to do when there is a lot of work in the office.

L.o boys...it's true ,if i got it right, on the light days you go home early...any hours you make are "banked" then when it's heavy they can demand you come in be it on your day off or even on leave to make good the shortfall of hours you "owe" them..like a kinda reverse flexi time i suppose...course if you go over your time they owe you nothing!! sometimes wish the union would implement a work to rule, royal mail must be dreading that little nugget..
if you aint payin..the mails stayin!!!

In my interview was told I could get 40 hours but it would be after I'd been there for 16 weeks but the guys at my office said I would always be on 24 hours. Bit gutted about that as now will have to find another part time job in the evenings.
I do get a bit of overtime in the week but they want me to stop booking overtime now as well, most of the time its not my fault as I usually have to wait for between half an hour to an hour and a half in the mornings to get my bags dropped off as I dont drive. I have spoke tio the managers about getting me a regular lift but they dont seem to care. They only care when I book overtime and tell me I will have to stop doing it !!
dont go shouting to loud yet u will only be on a tempory contract wait till u get your permanent contract to csout really load

If I worked the overtime I would be doing minimum 35 hours per week. But if I'm off sick, and when I'm on holiday I get paid 30 hours. That is absolutely wrong. Very few of the walks within my office can be done within the time, I know, because I've done them all. Most require at least 3 or 4 hours of overtime per week. Some go into double figures - that is just extended delivery, by the way. The manager knows it, his manager knows it. Neither of them care. It is about saving Royal Mail money. As for the "easier days". Since I've been on my current walk (about two months) I have not finished before my proper time once (not on a Tuesday nor a Saturday) - and the walk I am on now is not particularly bad.

Claim everything you are entitled to, and if the manager challenges you about it, ask what assistance he is prepared to give in order for you to complete your delivery - he is obliged to give it.
