lay members are not invited to the AGM.

Lay members certainly are invited to the Branch AGM. Unfortunately not many do.
But there has to be a certain number present or the meeting is not quorate and cannot make any decisions.

I know which branch dvb belongs to, do you?

what about portable members. i have been told that i cant speak at the branch agm on industral matters or vote on industral matters.

You will need to look at your branch rules. I cant see any reason why you could not speak at a AGM, if thats what your referring to?

You should be able to ask questions of your branch sec/chair as PEC are also NEC and will be dealing with the general genric NON IR affairs of the CWU which affect all members reagrdless of type. Otherwise whats the point of portable membership?

yes i can speak at an a,g,m but not on ir issues so ive been told. its not in the branch rules, it was the branch chairman who told me that I could not get up and speak at last sundays meeting on ir issues. he was talking to jl at hq and that was her rulling and he himself was going to raise it at the next branch committee meeting to get it approved.
no point in me voting for anyone that is standing for election in an ir role or getting up to talk if someone i think is not suitable for an ir role or supporting anyone standing for election in an ir role at the branch a.g,m.I think the branch chairman should be doing more for the members and stop worrying about finding ways of gagging us portable members and trying to drive us out of the union.

i want my money back for the last 3 years then and so do others

So you pay for representation then get denied a voice? Democratic Ditch this shower of s**t,let it all go tits up and see what shakes out,couldn't be worse

The Portable membership agreement was implemented so that members who took redundancy could actively seek employment in any other of the RM Group business sections and still stay a members of the Union meantime, If you could not do this why would you stay a member

what about members who where stiched up and ill health retired!! why would I stay a member if i could not work within rm.
I still have friends who work for rm i still attend picket lines and lite the fires provide tea and grub and help them any way i can as i now have spare time on my hands oh and i could always picket hq if they fail the members i could put motions to the agm there are lots of reasons why i would stay a member but most of all to support my mates if needed

Looking at the list of canididates compared to the current PEC above it appears we have some mbrs of the PEC not seeking re-election.

For those of you who hate 2010, you might wish to consider voting for Steve Hiscox of Bristol & District Amal branch.
