djchrisc Only yourself to blame for accepting an over size round.. They would have me doing the extra but I refuse point blank except in exceptionial circumstances to exceed 4 hrs give or take 5-10mins :so there

The Part Timers seem happy enough to pick up my excess baggage on O/T which helps them achieve a livable wage. :whistle

I didn't accept an oversized walk, I signed for a walk which is the average size in my office.
ALL walks in my office are 3 hours 50 minutes and have been since our last office revision, whole office voted to go up to that size of walk as we knew that RM would be looking to make changes in that direction anyway, I'm not saying I like it but that is what saved manhours and obs in our office. It was the best for us and the office equally. And we are glad we did as now with this new agreement we will either stay the same or have a reduction in our walks, where as your office may be in for a shock, and come into the real world of Royal Mail and not be one of the major problems this company is facing with people living in the past days of easy walks.

So There.......? Na na na na na na........: go whistle that one my friend.

Still takes over 4hrs out the office so i guess stopping for parcels take a fair bit of time.
"My average speed is only around 4 km/h which .........."ONLY..?????? YOU MUST BURN SOME CALORIES :Very Happy

I think its only about 600 calories used for the whole walk. What is interesting when I download the pedometer data is the amount of aerobic steps I take which is normally around 7-9k. When you consider the government recommended normal steps is 10k you get an idea how much we put in each day, its madness.

I use a pedometer which is linked to a nintendo DS.
I average 13,500 to 14,000 steps per day.

I've been told that you should walk at an average of 4MPH.
I said that was bullshit. but aparently it's in some manual or something. Never seen this manual.
Maybe if my knees wern't so fooked I COULD walk faster. But after 14 years in the job, they arn't quite what they were.

Trying not to go off topic, but comparing different rounds is difficult.
Small number of drops like Dr etc can have lots of mail, heavy catoluges etc ,and with long walks to each house can be really bad.

But many council estates now and other poorer areas have multy occupancy with numerous different people living their with a huge turnover of tennants.
this can equaly be bad ,especialy with recorded and packets.Plus you have to watch out for dogs more in the poorer areas and kids opening the doors and letting dogs out. Also more trip hazards in poorer areas and greater chance of something happening to you.

Most walks in any office are better than the one you are doing at present ,they are easier than your one etc, till you come to do it,when whilst they are different and have different problems, they all take time if done correctly.

Well said :Applause

When we had a re pick every year i used to look at a round which seemed miles better than mine only to pick it and find it was harder

Like you say It comes down to doing the job correctly. I tend to pace myself these days as my walk normally takes just under 4 hours and if you add another 30 min absorbtion its a lot of walking.
But there are guys on the estates who have a low call rate and jog round and can be done in less than 3hrs (more like 2.30 on a sat  ) and i would think that they may get close to the 4 mph on a light day. However put them on a hilly and detached house walk and they would do little better than me :left:

Most of the walks in our office have been over the 3.30 for a long time, the rural delivery's in the office were said to be 5hrs long 2 years back,as town delivery staff know that is bull as they have smashed the town delivery's to bits claiming they do not have a revision tool to do rural delivery's so have taken the hours out on the town side,we have been through 2 sets of peggy and now have more part time duties in the town than you can shake a stick at,we also have more town delivery's failing, the new part time staff now fail the walks as they are fed up with staying out on over sized walks, none of us choose to do walks that are quite clearly over sized some of us had walks that were medium walks which were bulky but doable but have had streets put on due to revision after revision and management have used a small hole in an agreement to exploit a trigger that would normally give us the choice to push for a re-pick so we are stuck in limbo and the only thing that we have left is to watch the office go down the pan and customers getting a poor service to boot, some of us have stayed out and just claimed o/t but now they are questioning that so now we just cut of,the moral of this is,you don't always get what you would like, sometimes it's just pushed onto you and so you have to just deal with it best you can.
