Errrr, you have no idea what your talking about mate. My back, knees and feet are close to giving up on me after just five years on the job. The length of walks and weights we have been made to carry has been nothing short of a joke. Tell you what, you come and do my walk for just ONE WEEK, and i'll drive around in your truck eating biscuits, then at the end of the week i'd love to hear from you as to how 'easy' us delivery staff have it.

You are an insult and clearly have no idea as to the day after day hard graft us walkers put in.

I did deliveries for years as well mate, back in the day when you had to do deliveries before you could work on processing/ distribution. If your bag weight is to much that's your fault, royal mail has maximum bag weights. If your body is knackered after only 5 years in the job then maybe it isn't the job for you, or more than likely its because your in such a rush to make 2 hours that you cram as much mail into your bag as you can and jog round just so you can be at home to watch crappy daytime telly by 11.30.

'You are an insult and clearly have no idea as to the day after day hard graft us walkers put in"....HAHA thats the best gag i've heard this week...hard days graft? lol

Oh yeah i don't eat biscuits in my lorry the crumbs get everywhere
I spent the day at a postcard factory.... it was o.k, but nothing to write home about

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Please try not to wind up the vast majority of posters on here please.

BTW I have a long serving postie in my office he has been working at RM since 79 and he has openly admitted that the job since SDD has become harder and more physical than at any time in his whole service. Back then on a busy day he would have 2 bags and the walk would take him 2 hours and then about 1 hour for the 2nd delivery. Now days minimum delivery for him is 3.5 hours and 5-8 bags.

Now I who do I believe someone who did the job when you were doing the walking side and is still doing it or someone who comes across as bitter . My mate says "Back in the old days we had it easy and just didn't know" :Very Happy

Mate i'm not bitter, just had enough of moaning posties saying they have it hard. Like your mate said we had it easy but just didn't know...well those days are long gone and now its a proper job where you work till the end of your duty and what's wrong with that? WE ARE HERE TO DO AN 8 HR SHIFT AND GET PAID FOR 8 HOURS. If you genuinely feel that your work load is to much, speak to your union rep, get the walk timed and deal with it through the proper channels.

@ POSTMAN..i'm not stuck in a timewarp (lol) part of my duty is taking the last dispatch to delivery offices and i see it with my own eyes on a day to day basis

Not arguing those points but I think you are way wrong to say its not hard graft. Even if you do the job exactly by the rules, as I do, it is still a physical job and it certainly is hard graft.

PS I also have an LGV Licence and and I know how hard being a trucker is, its a bugger sometimes getting management to understand that you are personally held responsible for any breaches of the Working, Driving and Rest laws. All the responsibility you have for the load, and though I doubt you do Nights Out or Ferry crossing they are an absolute bind as well, especially if you have to go through France.

I left trucking not because of the hard graft or even the life style because I enjoyed it, but because my family commitments made staying in it difficult. Ihave taken a pay cut to become a Postie and still think it was the best move. However, I think physically its a harder job then being a driver, but less stressful especially if you follow the rules.

2DOGS SAID

That's a fair point. There's a good number used to finishing early who are kicking up a stink about the "increased workloads" in this agreement. We've got some in our office who are so used to the early finish that they regard it as a right. Well it's not, you've just been fortunate to get away with it up until now. The rest of us have to work our 40 hours a week. Welcome to our world, boys and girls.

what our "leaders" have achieved is a faustian pact with the devil. they have secured the the future of the union structure/bureaucrats and sacrificed the jobs/livelihood of the vast majority of the membership that they supposedly represent. This deal is 2000 way forward/2007 pay and modernisation, the difference being we had a supposed" left" in the leadership that we voted for. this new deal again abdicates responsibility from the leadership to the grassroots, which woud be fine if they hadnt tied our hands with the com-plete tie up that is agreement to efficiciency and savings. You on the pec who voted yes should be ashamed(though you wont).I want a breakdown of the pec vote so that i will never vote for these people ever including all the negotiating team

Next year D2D could have disappeared with a rival company coming in and taking it! This way at least the £20 is in your basic and CANNOT be taken away.
You all seem to have this idea that D2D was your by right to deliver. I can remember when no one wanted to deliver it! now all of a sudden D2D is the most vital part of your jobs.
