What are you all about m8....
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Re: Glasgow, what is World Class Mail?
No. But it has been imposed on many of us.Tman wrote:Wot, rolled out to every RDC and MC, is it?
The reason that you're finding it so hard to find someone who's actively involved in it, is because it's been imposed via EA, rather than being introduced properly, via an agreement. However: a major part of WCM, is providing as much information (including financial details specific to each section) as possible, via the multitude of clear noticeboards. Which is why everyone at a site which uses WCM, has access to this information.
The only thing I've seen on here, which I'm surprised that anyone knew about. Is the cost of bringing the inventor of WCM (previously refered to as the Dude) to each site. We were never given that information. But I'm glad that I now know. It's all extra ammunition, for when there's arguments about it.

Re: What does World Class Mail mean?
There's no agreement as yet for the WCM system. Except for the trial sites, of which one (allegedly) has already pulled out, due to it being a failure. All the other sites, have had it imposed by EA (over the last year or so).Roy Mayall wrote:It's there in the agreement, the commitment to something called "the World Class Mail initiative" which, apparently the CWU doesn't even understand as yet. How can we sign up to something when we don't know what it is? If anyone can explain it to me, let me know. I'd be interested.
That's why the Reps don't know about it: The official CWU line, is that no-one should take an active part in WCM, except at the trial sites, until there IS an agreement. So the Reps (and many of the Members) have refused to turn up for the brefings about it, and therefore, know virtually nothing about it.
Personally. I've gone to all the brefings (but refused to take an active part in it), and even found out a bit more about it from other sources (which is surprisingly difficult). Because I wanted to know as much about it as possible, in case we ever got an agreement for it. I didn't want to be playing catch up, whilst those who've ignored the CWU advice, ran rings round me.

Classic postthehappyones wrote:In glasgow WCM is useless and gets everybodys back up ,the "volunteers" get free meals ,O/t ,and time off duty to wander about with clipboards looking for" kaizens " these are things that will save the company money and increase productivity which equals job losses(apparently Belfast have pulled out of WCM for this reason) we have had the wee japanese dude in last year and last week with various people following him like wee lost sheep(easily a dozen people from workers right up to Higson himself) with their earphones in listenning to his every word,i think you have 7yrs to reach 100pts to become WorldClass although nobody seems to know exactly what this means ,does the company recieve financial reward for reaching it or is it just the status of being World Class but you can be dammned sure there must be something init for them as the wee japanese dude costs(alledgedly)somewhere in the region of £40,000 per visit (could be wrong here but that was the figure quoted that is flying about GMC).The visit last week with the japanese dude cumulated in the dude slating the WCM team as amatuerish(you should have seen some of the drawings they did ,they were totally embarassing, my 5yr 0ld does better, seriously ....So anyways we now have a grand total of 16pts out of 100.Also when the dude comes for a visit the mail centre is like a bowling green with no junk etc to be seen anywhere as every thing is shunted into trailers out inthe platform/warehouse then trundled back in once the dude has left !! So in reality they really are just kidding themselves on(the dude must really be rubbing his hands with all the money he makes from the company(alledgedly) This visit also had atouch of CWU invlovement in the shape of our Area H&S Rep and one of the Unit Reps ,cant wait to read the report or whatever comes out of it ...And to clarify this ,as i know alot of members within the mail centre were making noises about why their was CWU involvement(if you can call it that) and the agreement hasn't even been voted on, i believe HQ were just having a looksee(no hidden agenda) so where was i ..?ah...World Class Mail ,well what is it? ,what is the end product? Well if your ever in GMC youwill see that there has been an explosion of clear perspex notice boards upon which are drawings, photographs, reports, various pie charts and graphs of varying colours and sizes all basically repeating the previous board but with a chart instead of a graph etc. all telling you how that particular section works, how it could be improved, and what they would save by doing so.So its really a glorified Time and Motion study to reduce expenditure and increase productivity ..........but if anybody can tell me differently i would love to hear .............On a ighter note GMC had another visit from the DTI or what ever they call themselves these days! wasnt good it was wonderful watching it all unfold as the DTI gained entry into our"secure"compound .butnot the building thanks to CWUmember ..well i wont give his identity away we all knowit was almost laughable(if itdidnt have a serious note to it,anybody fancy a doorkeeper duty )but i believe the DTI have gained acces to 4 mailcentres with GMC bieng the 5th which i hear is the tipping point when they can apply for an injunction with regards to our licence ..feel free to correct me if iam wrong ....Also had our Shift manager doing a mini roadshow (flipchart with printed powerpoint slides in a yorkie)going from section to section to let us know what the deal meant for us in the Mail centre and to use your vote and any question we had he would send them to somebody called Rachel Blanket i think it was as she is the official answer on any questions relating to the deal again the 10 min brief was just a summary of the deal in question and just what you expect from the company short and sweet ...!so all in all its been a funny auld week in the Mail Centre

a lot of stuff with RM doesn't need embellishing or stirring up , truth can be stranger than fiction . It seems to be in meltdown and in permanent panic mode .

Is this WCM?

I think the 'moronic postman' site was created by some gloating managers. They say:
"A big giant HAHA to all the strikers!.
YOU LOST, AND YOUR UNION SCREWED YOU!
You work low skilled jobs! (intellect not needed). Know your role!"

Well the comment you posted seems to have the hall marks of the worst kind of management.
1. Shouting.
2. Poor Grammar.
3. Them and Us attitude
4. Lack of respect.
The honourable Minister is perhaps right in that the "moronic postmen" channel does have a certain CMA flavour to it.

Re: Glasgow, what is World Class Mail?
Working towards the first stage of World class mail, the bronze award, had another practise test with the Japanese professor this week at Bristol Mail Centre. To get the Bronze award which we have been working towards for about two years you need to get 50 points. In the last practise we got 33 points. The final assessment is to be in October. This week we made a massive improvement in the last three months to take us to 36 points. World class mail costs £4000 a week in just staff costs released from normal duties. This doesnt include managers and engineers, which will be on top. Either the Japanese professor will feel pressured to give a mail centre that cant make the grade the Bronze award as they pay him £35000 per day visit (no it is true) thereby making his whole system of accreditation worthless or he will say no you are rubbish. He could then say try again, ill be back for more £35000 days. Ive got the time if youve got the money.

Re: Glasgow, what is World Class Mail?
No new units will begin wcm until the shares and pension stuff is sorted out. If you have already started it you are stuffed, you cant pull out. They can basically bring in whatever they like not giving a f**k about our health and safety or workload. The local cwu can only make small tweaks to the plan they already have, even that taking a fight. What they have in store for my duty is to work much harder, change the way I do everything completely making it more difficult to do the job but producing the same end result, and to see more VRs and loss of people on overtime around me. Meanwhile the same number of managers stand about watching our declining numbers.

Re: Glasgow, what is World Class Mail?
I`ve found WCM to be a waste of time. It`s all complete bullshit, but the worst thing is, the managers actually believe it. If they were paid enough and they were told that the moon is made of cheese they would believe it. I have had a manager tell me to lift a mail tray paper label in case someone tripped on it!
