Royal Mail spends £1m on 'brain classes' after axing 60,000 jobs

Post chiefs have spent more than £1million on "mind improvement" classes while slashing 60,000 jobs.

A Freedom of Information request by the Mirror revealed that in the seven years Adam Crozier has run royal Mail an average of £140,000 was paid to a firm called The Mind Gym.

It is fronted by Old etonian Octavius Black, a close pal of Tory chief David Cameron.

The Mind Gym gave 3,000 Post Office managers "mental workouts" last year on subjects such as "conflict handling".

But the Communication Workers Union said: "While royal Mail was spending on improving management, industrial relations dropped through the floor - not what we'd call a success."

Brian scott, assistant national secretary for Unite, added: "royal Mail have spent a lot of money on external consultants but our members are faced with high levels of work-related stress and bullying."

Mr Crozier, who is leaving to take charge of ITv this year, has been blamed by postal workers for provoking strikes as well as scrapping the second delivery and carrying out the massive job cuts.

The £1million outlay would pay the wages of 70 posties for a year.

But royal Mail said: "We believe strongly in investing in training for all our 170,000 people - managers and postmen and women.

"Sums spent on Mind Gym are a minute fraction of billions paid every year in pay."

More than £1million wasted on a folly that took industrial relations in RM back to 1830, a Mickey Mouse company fronted by an inveterate snob who has the amusingly pantomime villain sounding name, Octavius Black.

If there was any justice at all, that prat Crozier would go to bed tonight, and never wake up again.
