You should not in any way tie the ban on PCOD into this agreement.
The ban was coming anyway and will come regardless of whether this agreement is accepted or not.

Re: Cars banned! Well i'm voting no!
Well you may be surprised to see that although cars will largely disappear they will not disappear altogether.
Why? Well we are going to have a revision, unsequenced at this stage, where it is going to be stipulated what method of delivery there will be, HCT, CDV, possibly cycle but they definitely will be few and far between, now some people on CDVs may choose to go out in their own car and unless the managers forbid it then it will occur, trust me. The second scenario is a CDV pair when one goes sick and the replacement is part time his half of the delivery isn't prepared away goes the driver with the van and out goes No 2 in his car an hour later, it will occur, trust me.
The question that should be asked is "Is a postman allowed to leave the depot in his own car with his delivery and if he is will he be insured third party like he is now and will Royal Mail still be checking driver documents etc etc". If the answer is yes, then there is just another example of where the agreement doesn't hold water and the NO CARS ON DELIVERY is just another sop to the masses.

I really don't think it would of fish, they, both sides have been talking about this for years,it was only a year or so ago that the bond was increased to having more mail in the boot as well.fishtank wrote:You should not in any way tie the ban on PCOD into this agreement.

It's too easy for RM to have PCOD.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The point is POSTMAN the roll-out of New Delivery methods is not subject to this agreement being accepted only the details of how it will be acheived.POSTMAN wrote:I really don't think it would of fish, they, both sides have been talking about this for years,it was only a year or so ago that the bond was increased to having more mail in the boot as well.fishtank wrote:You should not in any way tie the ban on PCOD into this agreement.

So basically, agreement or not we get shared vans,HCTs and no PCOD.
Once these are in place it is not financially viable to continue with the bond.

I have got to be honest. The car issue is the stem of all cuts made in offices.I know of one office in London,-(ish), that had cars stopped by the DOM.In 12 months hours were put BACK in.Fact. The minute we stop using them as a protest we are accused of "unofficial Indutrial Action" or "Go Slow".
As previously stated,we have had a say in how the 1.2 billion is being spent. We will use those methods, deal or no.That is what we can use this forum for. No Private Cars!

Just because you're doing some stuff right it doesn't make using your car acceptable. The union has been asking people not to do this for ages, why be in a union if you won't support it.

Would a taxi driver use his own car for his job if he didn't get paid accordingly for it?dados wrote:i use my own car,try narrowing down your stupid blinkered arguement to the to$$ers who still think job & finish still is in place & who run round to get finished earlier &they squeal like a pig when they get lapsing or pkts to deliver,i take my breaks, don't come in early & do my job,but cos i use my car i'm part of the problem? Re: Cars banned! Well i'm voting no!
In all fairness, due to the lack of communication in CWU and from management. A lot of (newer) people don't know they shouldn't use their cars on their duty. I was just made aware that the union had asked this of posties recently, and I've worked there for almost 3 yrs. Lack of communication I fear. When I was out on a full duty, I used my car, took all my mail in it too, didn't use boxes etc. Easier to tie the duty up to work from my car, saved a lot of heavy bag carrying too. And most new posties are being employed when they have their own cars and are encouraged by management to use them.
Now I'm on rehab. Well sort of, I spend 3.5 hours indoors and 1hr 20 on delivery every day. I get my bags dropped off in the boxes. But in reality, there is no van's available to drop me off at 12:30pm to where I start, or to take me back to the office. So unless they can sort out transport to get me back to the office, then I'm afraid I will need to continue to use my car until they sort this. I have no other option. I can't risk being late for the school pick up because of the incompetence of RM. I would be quite happy for them to send me out in the van when they send everyone else and get me back to the office, unfortunately, RM don't want this, due to people coming into work early, the vans are already gone by the time i start at 9am. So where is the compromise here? As it is at the moment, I take all my returns home with me in the car, and return them the next day, yes I have full insurace, it costs me £10 a year more, which I've had since I was in care work, and just kept it going when I started with RM. Unfortunately, until they can sort this, i do feel that I have to drive to my start point. Picking my kid up from school on time is more important to me than anything else. If RM can guarantee I can get dropped off/picked up on time, i will happily leave the car at home

Two points
1. taking mail home with you (whatever it is) is a sackable offense
2. RM won't promise to pick you up on time all the time they know that you'll use your car if they don't. I know its catch22 but you have to make the first move and just refuse to use your car. They have to get you back in time.

Re: Cars banned! Well i'm voting no!
So from your post can we assume that Royal Mail have never checked your licence, insurance or vehicle documents? I should add that the insurance you have would probably NOT cover you in the event of an accident, it would need to be the same insurance a courier has. In any case it won't matter pretty soon because the duty will be allocated to either an HCT, CDV or just plain walk - maybe a cycle BUT definitely NOT a private car, that ALMOST has been finally nailed or has it?mazza111 wrote:In all fairness, due to the lack of communication in CWU and from management. Re: Cars banned! Well i'm voting no!
good thing you dont seem to care about your job cos mark my words when they wanna make these job cuts they will target people like you to sack, they sacked 3 at my office last year , managers hiding around the corner with the ib and following anyone that drove out with mail in their car. What time does your kid finish school then cos most schools i know are around 3 to half 3 and your only paid till 2 15, isnt that enough time? if not then what are you going to do when we have to work till 4pm everyday at some point?mazza111 wrote:i do feel that I have to drive to my start point. Re: Cars banned! Well i'm voting no!
Yes. RM have checked my license, my insurance, my M.O.T. Although not on the car i've most recently bought.
My son get's out of school at 3pm. Could I trust RM to get me back to the office by 2:15? No I can't. Simple as that. I'm actually glad the no cars rule is going to be enforced. Will mean that the management will have to get their finger out and sort it! What am I gonna do when they expect me to work to 4? I won't work it, simple, will go on the sick due to stress
. Naw, it will seriously depend on what the hours are expected to be. If the hours don't suit me, I will look for another job, end of story. I am only a postie because the hours coincide with school hours. How many other female (mostly) posties are in the same position?
Yes it is a catch 22. I have left my car home for a couple of weeks whilst it was off the road. And had to walk. Which in turn made me late. Luckily I have good family support, and if needed I could call them to collect the wee man. The point is, I shouldn't need to rely on family to do this.
The point of the whole post, is the lack of communication between this so called COMMUNICATION workers union, RM Management and the donkeys who do the work. Having worked there 3 years and only finding out that we shouldn't be using our cars for work.....
Yes,you're right, I shouldn't take the returns home with me, it's what I'm instructed to do by management. To be fair, I have no local post office to pouch off to. Delivery office is closer, again this is something that management shouldn't be instructing us to do. To be fair I drive past DO on way home from the school run, so drop it in box outside DO 9 times out of 10. Haven't done so this weekend yet, as I haven't drove past office as yet

I agree that you should use your vote, but if your statement about our voices being heard by our Union were true we would not have been served up with this "pile of crap" to vote on !TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Would -I hope that just an incorrect use of words because I firmly believe that whichever camp your own everyone should vote.
