" One of the things I have learnt in life is that you might not expect the unexpected but if you fail to plan for it then you are planning to fail."

"The Shorter Working Week is yet another section that I see as indifferent or perhaps even a step backward. On its own its a good step but the sacrifice of possible late starts and later finishes, and Saturdays being treated as a normal working day completely negates any benefits perceived or real that we would have got from it. Most if not all delivery posties joined RM mainly because the early starts and early finished suited and fit into their family life well, it was certainly the reason I started. At the moment with Saturdays being treated as a shorter day and an earlier start it feels as though you actually have a weekend to recuperate. Now even with 1 in 4 Saturdays off, a vague suggestion rather than a promise of, I feel that fatigue levels are going to climb and sickness levels are going to increase putting further pressure on workforce that frankly has morale in the cellar and no sign of it climbing."

good read that :Applause

I'd like to use the preferred Glesca Keelie response "GET TAE F*CK, YA NEDS!"
( Any chance we could get that on the ballot...."Yes", "No", "Abstain" "GET TAE F*CK, YA NEDS!"? )
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Why is everyone so sure that this deal will be good for MC/RDC workers? :confused
It's no-where near as bad as it is for Delivery Posties. But I don't see anything particularly positive about it, apart from the lump sums, and the fact that they won't loose any money in the long run (whereas some Delivery Posties will loose some money on their D2D payments).

Here are some examples:
1) WCM: This is just a way of transfering as much blame as possible onto the Posties, if something goes wrong. But doesn't actually help them prevent the problems.

2) H&S improvements: There's a section claiming that this will be improved. But where's the specifics?
Who's going to monitor it?
The Managers? :chuckle :d'oh!
What penalties will there be for Managers who block attempts to improve safety?
Will the training be adequate for the extra duties involved in WCM for the Posties?
Or will they simply be used as Scapegoats? :hmmmm

There are other problems with it. But as it's mostly Delivery Posties, posting in this Thread. I won't go into more detail, unless someone asks me to. There are more than enough problems with the deal, that are specific to Deliveries, to disuade people from voting for it.

:Applause plus the fact that most MC's dont have the budget for training on the new machines etc

That's precicely the problem Machineman. Plus of course, theres the extra "minor maintenance" duties that we'll have to perform on the existing equipment. Where's the extra training for that? :hmmmm

if the union let rm get away with the top 10% rate of sorters as the standard they should be shot.

people will lose their jobs just because they allowed this to go through.

Where I work, beheading is favoured. As a very moderate sort of person, I advocate rolling up all 80 odd pages of the agreement and inserting it up their interim agreements.
