Re: royal mail/union tie up
My ADR is paid by RM and has caused them s**t loads of problems, and he's still here.......................causing them s**t load of problems.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

What a load of bullshit. I have heard it all now , by all means oppose the agreement but use some truth in your opposition.
For the record every rep who gets released to reprsent you locally , at area level or divisional level are paid by Royal Mail. This union had more strike action last year then the TUC combined so does that mean we are in the pockets of Royal Mail.
The last paragraph on page 7 of transforming relationships which you all are reading wrong reads. ROYAL MAIL WILL SUPPORT THE CWU BY PROVIDING AN APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF AGREED RELEASE AND FACILITIES TO ALLOW ACCREDITIED REPRSENATIVES TO CARRY OUT THEIR ROLES AND SUPPORT EFFECTIVE INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS. THIS WILL BE UNDERPINNED BY A PROFESSIONAL FINANCIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH FUNDING ARRANGEMENTS ON A MORE CONSISTENT FOOTING.
Well not all release is paid for by Royal Mail , so a number of reps put in for unpaid leave via central billing. What this arrangement allows is for the indivudual to continue to be paid by Royal Mail but Royal Mail then bill union headquaters who check with the Branch and then it paid by the Branch rebate. However Royal Mail claim that we now owe them in the region of 10 million pounds.
So there is a debate going on between the respective headquaters and our Branch`s so Royal Mail now want to put this on arrangement on a more professional manner.
For the record Royal Mail claim that they pay appoxmately 16 million a year in union facilities in any case , not only with reps release , but with union rooms , phone and fax bills, photo copying , committe meeting release , annual conference arrangements , etc.
The union may make mistake and you may disagree with things but no one is in managments pocket.

Royal Mail claim we owe them £10million, so do we? This debate on respective financial arrangements and who owes who - when is it going to take place and are there any circumstances where perhaps a circumspect view could be taken say after the agreement is signed. Would it for example make any recompense for loss of membership when job cuts come about or if people decide the CWU is not the union for them in light of this agreement? It's only fair really if it means 20,000 less subs at £3 a week x 52 - I'm no maths wiz but it works out at over £3million a year - that's some dosh particularly when recruitment prospects are pretty slim at best.
Still we have to keep on smiling.

Re: royal mail/union tie up
ARE we reading it wrong, or is the wording of this section - like the rest of the Agreement - a shoddy collection of vague, easily misinterpreted intentions amongst a wealth of empty promises - i.e. promises that can be ignored by any DOM. YOU have written it wrong boyo, BIG TIME. The interpretation we are giving this bit it is entirely from following the immediate meaning of the words used. Either we are all stupid or you have written a pile of crap. The truth! wrote:What a load of bullshit. You can't vote your working life away to a pile of crap. It's useless to us, it promises a lot but in the cold light of day delivers NOTHING but a free-for-all for every bully-boy DOM in the company. Well bloody done. You should all be thoroughly embarressed but it looks like your're anything but.

I've just heard the sound of a penny dropping (in my own head) .....
Now it becomes clear why, seemingly out of nowhere, the CWU executive suddenly agreed a deal back in 2007, just when we appeared to have RM backed against the wall, with nowhere to go and more strikes looming. And why the CWU were happy to call off the strikes for a pathetic interim agreement last November, when even closer to Christmas and more strike dates already set.
dvbuk, you are absolutely right in what you said on another thread. This deal is about defending the CWU machinery and structures, at the expense of the very members whose subs keep it in existence
When are the ballot papers coming out ? As soon as my NO vote has been sent off, Billy & Dave can ask Royal Mail for an extra £150/yr so they can go on kissing their ar**s and tucking-up the membership. But not with MY money.

So, is it not The Truth then that the CWU have been losing members ? And not true about the CWU owing RM £10m ? How is that position going to be rectified without jacking up subs so much that even more posties start leaving the union because 'not only have they agreed a pay cut, now they want me to pay them more for the priviledge' ? If substantial redundancies flow from this agreement, the union's finances will only get worse. And if this cosy arrangement goes ahead, won't that be the end of the union as a credible negotiating force ?
