finance deal with cwu /royal mail

Post by axeman »

So if the membership leave in quantities that they are currently doing (mass exodus) the funding to keep the cwu afloat will be supplied by royal fail then
this was a statement at our reps meeting with ward & co .

So who's side is this union on your's or theirs loads of members in my office have already quit this statement shows complete failure of the union and must now lead to a NO CONFIDENCE vote in our current officers and the PEC

any comments on the above lovejoy , the truth , etc.........

Royal Mail will fund the union. Is this what you are saying? What is the point?

I think you are reading to much into this. At the moment we pay something in the regional of £300 thousand to pay for Royal Mail`s cost to deduct union subs from wages ( called check off ) and we also have what is known as central billing where a union official needs unpaid release for carry out union duties, Royal Mail pay their wages , pensions etc and bill either Headquaters or the Branch for the cost of covering the duty. All this section means is that both parties are willing to talk about whether these issues could be done better and at less cost.

And how about being fully integrated into the management structure, the truth - or should it be half truth?

If it is as open, honest and innocent as you imply then HQ and Royal Mail should have no problem releasing the full details of this financial agreement.
Afterall we don't want any misunderstandings do we?

Page 7 of the agreement is what you refer to and I think you will find it is Royal Mail who want money off the union not the other way around. According to Royal Mail branch`s of the union have run up a few million pounds in unpaid central billing costs and of course this is causing some problems. That is why it states that funding arrangments will be on a more consistant footing.

What will not be admitted by this man or any of the union leaders is that it has taken four months to come to an agreement for their future not ours. I think the deal such as it is for us was done last year - as Dingo here says, the best pay rise ever, the deal of the century is what they will get out of it not us.

The CWU will become as useful to it's dwindling band of members, as USDAW is to theirs. When there's far less members in the union rank and file, how long will it be before you're asked to give up your seat on the gravy train?
This disgraceful sell-out/cop out will haunt what little is left of the CWU for the rest of it's days.
The union has made it so that RM is a private company in all but name. :evil/mad Bloody shocking.

That is a staggering sum of money ! And the arrangement is not justified in the 21st Century, given that every RM employee's wages is paid into the individual's bank account.

Send every CWU member a Direct Debit mandate, and get the subs that way. Just as convenient, and far more importantly, gives the CWU a higher degree of independence from Royal Mail than the present 'cosy' arrangements allow.

The truth or is it?
HQ should issue a statement to reassure the members that CWU will not become reliant on RM for its funding.
This deal gets more and more like a murky conspiracy.

Well hso - the reason why the CWU rely on the deductions from pay is simple - it is much easier to cancel a Direct Debit than it is to cancel your deduction from your pay and so it is a nice cosy relationship, in fact as the years have gone on the old gentlemans agreement has become a bit of a millstone for the CWU but they are afraid to take the plunge which I believe will be their downfall.

As for changing deductions from your pay, and I believe there will be many taking up the opportunity, go see the bloke/woman in the book room and have him cancel the deduction or ring HR to do the same - simple really quite painless and you have an immediate increase in pay BUT wait until after the vote if you are voting no - do it now if you are voting yes :Very Happy

You could always request it from RM under FOI. you probablly won't get it for ages though.
