Launch of Right to Request Time to Train Project

The new right to request time to train comes into operation in April 2010. This is a significant date as the new right could potentially encourage very large numbers of union members to access learning. The previously introduced right to request flexible working helped millions of members to arrange work patterns around their needs, with reportedly over 90% of requests being agreed at the first time of asking. Of course this right to request time to train will be different but it could well have a similarly major impact.

To mark the new right coming into effect, the TUC has initiated a project to promote awareness and confidence in using the right; and to make the links between exercising the right and organising around learning in the workplace.

Sounds like a great idea.

What level of learning does it have to be...Academic such as , A Level, AS Level, B-Tec, HND, B-Ed, BA, MSC...
Or can it Vocational Qualifications, such as GNVQ etc?

Also, what about "Funding", will RM contribute or is it self-funded or Grant Aided courses only?

This makes me laugh.

The "right to request" is not a new right. We have always had a right to ask for anything and management have a right to refuse, subject to legal requirements. Ah, you say, they are now obliged to take your request seriously. So, before they were entitled to laugh at your request?

Complete bollocks. We are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect and this initiative gives us nothing new. It's "family friendly" regurgitated. How stupid do they think we are?
