The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
Sorry I'm still not getting this even after reading the new thread.
All staff are getting a pay increase but what has that got to do with the working week being made 1 hr shorter? I can't see any actual link other than people saying 'part timers pay is going up because of shorter week' but that makes no logical sense. If EVERYONE is getting a pay rise there is simply a general pay rise in operation. To say that is happening 'to recompense PT'ers' when it actually benifits both PT'ers and FT'ers is a nonsense.
Now, as a seperate issue FT'ers are gaining an hour but anyone on less than 40 hours gets sweet FA. Am I missing something?

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
Everytime there is a cut in the working week for FT, it pushes up the hourly rate, which means every PT earns more per hour so gets a payrise.
A 30 hour person such as myself in a D.O with sequenced mail due autumn 2011 will see weekly pay rise £7 due to the SWW pushing up the hourly rate.

Basically the ft 40 contract stays at the same pay as before (basic) but becomes an hour shorter a week. The pt contract remains as is but the basic rate goes up.opgpat wrote:Sorry I'm still not getting this even after reading the new thread.

Ogpat
Try this, figue B is the impact of the SWW
A £380.37/40 X 30=£285.27
B £380.37/39 X 30 = £292.59

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
Can't you see that is total nonsense? The situation is FTers are getting an hour less, PT'ers are getting nothing. The hourly rate is going up for EVERYONE so FT'ers benifit TWICE while PTers are doing SAME hours.Big Daz wrote:Everytime there is a cut in the working week for FT, it pushes up the hourly rate, which means every PT earns more per hour so gets a payrise.
Equation:
FT - payrise and 1 hour less
PT - payrise.
Am i still getting this wrong?

IF FT'ers are only getting paid for 39 hours then that would make sense. I thought they were still getting paid for 40hours?

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
39 hours for FT upon seqeuneced mail revision
If you take say a 400 basic thats 10 hour so for a 30 hour week thats 300, now if the 400 changes to 440 thats 330 for 30 hour PT.
Now if 40 hours goes to 39 hours hourly pay goes from 11 a hour to 11.28 the 11.28 is then appiled to PT staff as they get the same hourly rate.
30 hour week then gets 338 as the hourly rate goes up.
If the WW drops again in a few years time then PT will see their basic pay go up again.
PT get 4 payrises and FT 3 payrises and 1 hour less WW

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
Thanks for the explanations, think I'm getting this now, I was thinking despite 39hr working week comming in that FTers were still going to be paid for 40hrs pw. They will be getting paid 39hr pw which is fair

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
Just to absolutely clear opgpat (hopefully!)
If a 40hr bloke continues to receive the same basic pay for working a new 39hr week, his hourly rate increases. This makes no difference to his take-home pay, though, as 40 x £10/hr (I wish) gives the same result as 39 x £10.26/hr
But the bloke working 25hrs part-time continues to work 25hrs part-time. But he's 26p/hr better-off because he's working the SAME number of hours as before, at a HIGHER rate

Re: Part time staff new hourly rate
lol i don't think YES! answers that question.
I think this is it-
FTers will be loosing 1 hr pw on shift but will get paid more p.h. to keep their weekly pay at same level as now.
PTers will stay on same hours but pay will do up match new FT hourly rate.
So FT=PT
Now take away the first number you thought of and you have.....193?!
