West Dorset: Lib Dems blame inferior glue for another post row

WEST Dorset’s Liberal Democrats have accused Royal Mail of using inferior glue on their new stamps.
The claim comes after another angry constituent was forced to pay an excess postage fee to collect one of their circulars.
Melody Newman from Drimpton was furious when she had to visit Bridport Post Office to pick up the un-stamped letter – only to find it was a party political leaflet.
The Lib Dems claim all their letters are stamped and thoroughly checked before being posted.
They reckon some of the new non-reusable ‘pop out window’ stamps are falling off the envelopes because they have weaker adhesive.
West Dorset Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Sue Farrant says she is convinced it is the reason and has written to postal bosses demanding an investigation.
But this week Royal Mail said the charge would not stick.
A spokesman said: “We are not aware of any problems with adhesive on our new stamps.”
Dr Farrant has written to Mrs Newman to say she is sorry for the annoyance and sent her £1.50 compensation.
Last month Bridport councillor Ros Kayes, the party’s parliamentary candidate for South Dorset, reimbursed a Portland pensioner who got out of his sick bed to collect one of her unstamped campaign letters.
Whatever the reason for the stamps falling off Mrs Newman says the party should not be sending out campaign leaflets in the guise of a personal letter in the first place.
“There was no indication on the envelope that it was just a circular,” she said.
In a letter of complaint to Dr Farrant she said: “Let’s face it all you were doing was sending circulars in envelopes personally addressed in the hope that the recipient would actually read the communication rather than putting it in the recycling sack.”
Mrs Newman says because the letter could have been something important she could not ignore the request from the post office to collect it.
She said the Royal Mail surcharge was £1.30 and the cost in petrol to Bridport sorting office to collect it would have added another £2.60 She added: “OK, so I work in Bridport and therefore I did not need to make a special journey but you and your office did not know that. I understand that this has happened before. In the leaflet the Lib Dems state ‘I will keep my expenses to a minimum’.
“This is obviously one way of keeping your expenses to a minimum – what about the electorate? I would appreciate the £1.30 at your earliest convenience.”
Dr Farrant said she was really sorry to have caused Mrs Newman such inconvenience.
“I fully understand how infuriating it is,” she said. “I think something is wrong with the adhesive on the new stamps.
“We have a team of volunteers sticking them on and checking them before they are posted.
“I am contacting the Royal Mail to ask them if the number of missing stamps has increased since the design was changed.
“I genuinely believe the problem is with the stamp.”

My guess is, that the volunteers the Limp Dems are using to check that they've stuck a stamp on a card correctly, are in the same mould as that moron leader of theirs, Clegg.
In other words, perhaps the Limp Dems should cease employing idiots, if such a thing is at all possible in this joke of a country anymore.
