they are actually a pain in the arris, and i imagine they probably do break easily thru constant use, but if it means the delivery spans are going to be designed with them in mind, i'll be happy with that.

Just because I have a job I should tug my forelock and be thankful for it? I've worked as a builders labourer before, which is an extremely physically demanding job,but it's not half as much graft as I do now as an "overpaid underworked" postman.

no need for insults
you may think this is a great deal and you are entitled to your views
however many do not share your views and like to put their points across
this job may be tagged as unskilled but i disagree - you only have to look at the high turnover of staff to see that
you have to be a certain kind of person to be a postie it isn't for everyone
to put up with the early starts, the weather etc
yes we could all go get another job if we aren't happy but guess what most of us still (!) love our jobs, our customers and our company
we are committed that's why we just don't leave
all we want is a deal that gives us something for our efforts, if we are going to be expected to work harder we want to be rewarded
this deal just gives us the money we would have received for previous efforts wrapped up in a big red bow and labelled as a new pay deal - with a nice pay cut thrown in if you happen to delver d2d
answer me this if rm expect to expand the d2d ( as the introduction of the no cap would suggest) why don't they filter this extra money down to the workforce???
If there is no more money available for a better offer ( as we are repeatedly told) then I guess most of us would rather vote no and stay as we are
it's better than the alternative

Re: PLEASE ANSWER THIS>>>>>>>>
ok the lump sums we will receive we would have got anyway under colleagueshares so that point is null and void
personally I will not be rewarded under this deal I will lose money however my biggest bugbear is that p/t will be expected to do the same work as me for less pay
it simply is not fair - I was an a/g for many years and simply cannot stand by while my p/t colleagues lose money like this
I agree there are not many jobs out there but there are some if you are willing to do anything!
so if removing the d2d cap will keep me in a job why am I taking a pay cut to achieve this? this is not rewarding me for my extra efforts - lets face it d2d are a pain in the arse - but they do generate income I accept that all I am asking is that if that income will rise with the cap removed then my income rises too ( atm I receive around £25 for d2d and £12.40ish for early start therefore £20.60 s a pay drop for me let alone any poor p/t who has to cover my walk when I am off)
and as for me being out of work as the alternative - please
I'm educated I could probably walk out tomorrow and not have any worries - I chose this job as it fitted around my family's vision for our future I get to pick my kids up everyday and spend time with them - time that is precious!
After 12 years I still love my job I just hate the politics that seem to have infested it
I refuse to be told I have to accept a deal because there is no alternative
there is always an alternative

Two years ago I was doing basic factory work. Little bit of training, no qualifications needed, and getting £20,000 a year. That's £10 an hour plus shift allowance.
How many pay rises (or will it just be more wage cuts?) until a postman is on £10 an hour?
Decent working postman, honest and sensible, who are well worth £10 an hour, will continue to leave for proper jobs, leaving a hopeless bunch of minimum wagers who couldn't care less about customers, mail integrity or attendance and punctuality. People staying 15, 10 or even just 5 years in the job will be unheard of.

£20k is that supposed to be good? I haven't earnt less than £24k for the last 3 years with no docket at all. So yes we are fairly well paid I should think. And as for the person a couple of post's above, what world are you living in? You state you are educated? You really believe you could just find a job just like that? You are competing with a lot of other educated people for even a factory job now son! Trust me it will not be as easy as you assume.
The idea of removing cap and itemised pay for d2d is so Royal Mail can then become competitive with all competition, it can in theory offer better deals to customers and pick up more contracts, keeping more of us in full time jobs. We've had it good for so long, some of you need to take a look at the bigger picture, it's NOT a skilled job, some are just better at it and take more pride in the service they provide than others.

It's a simple question. If you vote No, it'll only mean the reps will need to go back and get a hopefully better deal.

so you accept that we should deliver more d2d for less money? RM will be making money out of these why should we - the people delivering them - not benefit from that? and the main sticking point is still this - it is wrong to expect a p/t person to earn less than a f/t person for doing the same work ( by this I mean pro rata supplements)
and as for earning 24k without overtime? i earnt 19k with d2d and esa and plenty of overtime so I think I can safely say your approach to this subject is coming from a vastly different viewpoint to mine
anyway the amount of money is not as important as the principle that we will be losing money under this deal
as for the finding a job lets just say we will agree to differ - you have no way of knowing what my qualifications are or which area they are in and I'm not about to enlighten you
like I said this job was a lifestyle choice one I love
but it doesn't mean I would accept a deal that makes me worse off in both pay and 'conditions' - ones that have not been made clear before I vote

24K gross without overtime - Thats £461 before tax per week that's even higher than inner London and would have to include 3 D2Ds per week every week even on holidays, sickness and Xmas Block.feduppostie wrote:mickthesplit wrote:£20k is that supposed to be good?
