ROYAL Mail has set up a helpline for worried Aberdeen customers who fear their mail was stolen during a robbery.

Police have appealed for information after a postwoman was robbed as she delivered letters on Tuesday.

She was delivering to homes in North Anderson Drive when one of her mailbags was stolen between 9.30 and 9.40am.

There were letters in the bag, but it is not known how many or their value.

Royal Mail said it was doing what it could to help police.

A spokeswoman added: “We can confirm there was incident in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen on Tuesday morning. No one was hurt.

“Royal Mail security is working closely with Grampian Police in their investigation into the theft of a number of items of mail.

“Royal Mail takes the security of the mail seriously and will do all they can to help the police with their inquiries.”

The worker, who has not been named, has been given time off by her employer.

The theft took place outside 131-141 North Anderson Drive.

Police made door-to-door inquiries at the tenement block after the robbery.

Police are looking for a man in his late teens or early 20s who was seen in the area at the time. He is 6ft and was wearing a black beanie hat with blond hair underneath and a black tracksuit top.

Anyone with queries about their post should contact Royal Mail on 08457 740740. Anyone with any information about the robbery can contact police on 0845 600 5700.

The worker, who has not been named, has been given time off by her employer.
Would that be the same as suspended and then sacked for 'failure to safeguard'?
