I agree with MTS a lot of this you have brought on yourself, it is a good deal considering the econmic climate people should be gratefull for what they have

You work to those guidlines on day one for example then at 9:30 you will be nowhere near ready, so more and likely you have lunch and carry on prepping, then all of a sudden the old favourate indoor working tool comes into play where your line manager will tell you that you should have been prepped up donkeys ago, so you ask to see the figures etc wasting ten more minutes or so then you demand a manual count, in which wastes even more time, then your line manager puts the actual figure into his little programe and takes into account your lunch, and the time you've wasted f***ing about counting mail to defend your argument that you don't have enough time in 1:20 to prep and tie up, all of a sudden you not expected to be tied up until 11:45am. Then more or likely there will be no f****r to take you out and your gaffer will try to get you into their private vehicle in which you reply you would like to see their registration and insurance documents, which they don't have. It's about 12:30 before you get and low and behold you only deliver 120 drops of mail (including d2d for the included in your workload purests) before you know it, it's 1:50pm and no one is there to convey you back and you go 40 mins over your time. Your told flexible, be flexible come in 40 mins late next day.

Day two forty minutes late, you get the picture, after a while you end up with a smaller walk and maybe night prep. But I still haven't got that time to do d2d in my delivery, I work all hours paid, everyday, somedays still don't have time to complete. Been working hard on getting d2d into my prep time, but NO agreement on indoor working tool which doesn't really take into account the prepping of these into delivery frame at 20% a day no matter what any of you think. So this deal WILL make MY life better in this way as it's is written in agreement that d2d will be intergrated into delivery prep, so if you all play the game by the rules, no matter how many you have to do in a week, weigh your bags, which decrease in weight limit after the first two, you will only do what you can in 8 or 10 hours.

Just my take on things, the above is only an example, we know each day is different. I will be voting YES, thankyou.
Sorry pal that attitude was all right.
But you won't be in the top 10% will you - this deal will rid Royal Mail of You
Save your £290 after tax pal - you'll need it.

Turkeys voting for Christmas springs to mind here.
I'm p/t and barely making ends meet on this wage yet I'm supposed to slit my own throat by voting for a wage cut?
I'm supposed to vote to do the same work as the guy next to me who starts earlier yet get payed less for it?
I'm supposed to vote for the dangling carrot of £400 ( that I'll get at pro rata no doubt) that I was entitled to anyway?

To f**k with that,I'm NO all the way.I went out on a picket line for this s**t? A total and utter joke.

Such a confusing post if I may be so bold. On one hand it says we have brought this on ourselves which seems to suggest that the deal is bad yet in the last line you recommend voting for the deal as we would be better off in the long run. Not sure if you are saying we are being punished because we are militants, or congratulating us for getting such a good deal.

Don't have anything to do with RM or the CWU communications do you. :nervous :nervous :nervous

A REASON TO VOTE YES....WELL MAYBE MAYBE NOT BUT THIS WAS JUST SENT TO ME BY MY BRANCH SECRETARY WHO WAS ANSWERING A VERY IRATE MESSAGE FROM YOURS TRUELY.BEING A PART TIMER WHO AS HE KNOWS PREPS AND DELIVERS HIS OWN ROUND

Hi ******

I hope the following might help to answer some points :

As it stands now we shall be recommending it as the only game in town. We do have serious concerns about some aspects of the deal, but from feed back we have had many have not quite understood how certain parts of the deal link up together.

Am happy to discuss this with you anytime as I am very concerned that the deal is understood as a series of checks and balances / good and bad.

The negotiating climate is extremely poor. RM are about to declare a huge deficit which is draining the company of money. Government have not helped and have left the Union in a huge difficulty in getting RM to negotiate when they actually see no need to.

RM view was that they can give us a job, but you need to do it our way / gradually get down the wages by 25% (they say we are overpaid) / RM wanted us to recognise they can get the job done on NMW rates and don't pay for any changes ie no extra pay.

D2D is very controversial, but the agreement captures money that would otherwise disappear. RM view was clear - a 3 month buy out only. Putting D2D into workload means extra hours and jobs + 4 day weeks = extra 48 days off per year + shorter working week = increased hourly rate. Also call rates will increase and be factored into duties.

RM were very reluctant to agree any payment as they said if it goes in workload and extra hours come out of that, why should they pay twice over with a delivery supplement ?

4 day weeks + more OT opportunities. Duties for part timers must also be adjusted as well in my view and PT staff need to make demands of the union locally.

No more weight on the shoulder is a huge gain as the Branch are aware of many workers who have poor health through lugging mail bags around. This does allow an increased span, but only commensurate with a daily attendance time. RM view was that they wanted mostly PT staff on multiple short spans on low contracted hourages.

PT - there is to be standardised contracts + shorter working week = immediate increase in pay and hourly rate. 75 /25 ratio FT to PT leaves opportunity to get PT members contracts commensurate with the hours they work.

The SWW means the hourly rate for part timers increases immediately whereas it won't for a FT employee. On a 20 hour contract the average PT member will get a £5 or £6 per week rise approx.

Job Security has been improved with the main job security agreement improving (known as MTSF)

There are pay rises against the back drop of RM saying we are 25% overpaid. RM view was that they would allow pay to drift down until they had retention problems ie a market rate for a postal worker would be reached. A crude policy based on their continued view that we are merely "semi or unskilled workers". They have an low opinion of us as you know.

ACAS are maintaining a presence to ensure RM abide by the agreement.

In your office it is VITAL that if the agreement goes through that you hold the management and union to account to get all the benefits the agreement allows for.

I appreciate that you may still feel it is a poor deal, but the alternative is a further dispute and I think we need to look to consolidate. If the Tories get in we really are finished if we don't have an agreement, unless members are prepared for a real fight and not just a few token days on strike.

I think overall there is enough there to say we have achieved a reasonable deal against a hostile backdrop. I can't deny that I personally think the jury is out on how it is going to be impemented, but it is the case that managers and reps have to be jointly trained before revision activity commences.

You may not be aware but the Branch now has an agreed policy that NO agreement locally can be signed without a members meeting. make sure that PT staff get a fair deal and if this is not happening please get in touch with me.

I am happy to come along to your office to discuss the deal and try and answer any concerns. Let your local rep know or get in touch with me.

Good Post, especialy regarding the famous phrase over paid and under worked.
A Number of very valid points.
But proably crucial, the deal is not compete and may not be compte till sept ,how can we vote on a deal when so many bits are still to be finalised, like menus,
delivery spans ,BSI,Every 3/4 sat off etc ,the agreement is big on talk but little on detail and facts.

. 75 /25 ratio FT to PT leaves opportunity to get PT members contracts commensurate with the hours they work.

Some elements of our union must be naive to the point of stupidity if they genuinely believe that's how the wording in the agreement is going to be interpreted by RM.

So it's a piss poor deal that's suddenly acceptable to him because someone has told him he aint getting anything else. :cuppa
I am not surprised this union is in such a piss poor state.

If i handed you a piece of dog sh*t and told you to eat it would you?
If i told you it was the only meal on offer would you change your mind?

Yes I use one, and yes they add at least half a hour on your walk. Pushing up hills, locking up and chaining to lamp post all take time. more weight means heavier trolleys. and thay brake very easily.
