Postman and cabbie assaulted

A postman and a cab driver were assaulted and robbed in separate attacks just streets away from each other.

Two men assaulted a cabbie before stealing his cash box and mobile phone as he dropped them off on Wheatfield, in Highfield, Hemel
Hempstead, in the early hours of yesterday morning (Tuesday).

The men had flagged down the taxi in Marlowes.

They made off towards Bellgate Shops following the attack.

A postie was delivering mail on nearby Fletcher Way at around the same time when he was confronted by two men of the same description.

The pair punched and kicked him, before demanding his wallet in an unprovoked attack.

Both of the victims suffered injuries as a result of the assaults, including bruising to their faces.

Police are linking the crimes, that happened between 5.40am and 6.25am.

In both assaults the suspects are believed to be white males, slim to medium build, and between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 9ins.

They are described as wearing light coloured tops and dark trousers, with black beanie hats.

One was wearing work boots.

Herts Police has appealed for anyone who witnessed the attacks, or may have any information about what happened, to contact DS Gill Fawcett via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.
