Re: Local Reps Briefing
Every rep and every member IMHO should get to hear from the powers that be in the CWU the rationale behind the proposed agreement.

Re: Local Reps Briefing
Belle it was not meant to be insulting far from it. I think it is important that the negotiators have the chance to explain each aspect as there is a lot of wrong interpretations and some misunderstanding of certain aspects of the agreement.
For instance , some do not believe that improved attendances will happen whereas if you read the agreement its states that the workplan must support new attendances.
In addition some believe the words on 1 in 4 Saturdays allow Royal Mail a get out clause when in reality the only reason is that in some offices there are a number of Saturday only AGs and you cant give them one in four saturdays off and there is a number of part timers who only work one or two days including a Saturday. So Headquarters can dispell the myth that everyone who wants at least 1 in 4 saturdays off can't have them.
Furthermore the issue of D2D needs to be explained including the pro rata. Including the review which could mean when revenue increases further benefits could become available.
GEO route and Standards
In addition there are questions like will someone still recieve their pensioniblity for early shift 1 and 2.
Plus it is important for part timers to know they will get an additional pay increase as a result of the shorter working week reduction which then increases their pay.
I have also seen posts on here who believe that the shorter working week will mean they lose an hours pay.
No I think the briefings are important. It enables reps to get things off their chest and it allow for the platform to explain the agreement.

So why is it no one can tell us how it will work ?, if it involves absorbtion and working into Sat afternoons then expect another backlash from the membership, its all wait wait wait, just the like the bloody talks,! pi5s up brewery organise in a couldnt" springs to mind.dingo wrote:Belle it was not meant to be insulting far from it. I get the feeling the union were not expecting such a strong feeling from the workforce against certain parts of this agreement, which just shows how out of touch they are. It's almost as if they have negotiated something they expect to be rejected, but for the life of me I cant see why they would do that.

4 day week
week 1 mon/tue off
week 2 wed/thurs off
week 3 fri/sat off
back to week 1
sat off every 3rd week (5day long weekend)
you then need to fill up the daily attendance, this is were D2D in workload will help.

Re: Local Reps Briefing
We had our branch AGM last night, and Bob Gibson was on to explain the agreement, and as someone else said on here, he will sell you the agreement, I'll admit, I was a 100% no voter, before last night, but now I probably a 60/40 for a yes vote.
We were told that the CWU is hoping to see Mandelson this week, and our local reps will have the meeting with Dave Ward etc on Tuesday.
I'll try and list the things we were told and what to expect.
*Local reps will have a meeting with Ward and co.
*Local reps will have training on how to do the revisions and working with the agreement.
*Area reps will receive a lot more training on negociating deals, revisions etc at a local level.
*Revisions will have a 6 stage process, using national figures for Georoute etc, no revision can be put in with Execitive action.
*All members should receive the agreement (I think), and examples of what kind of attenance patterns could be, ie 4 day weeks, rota weeeks, 9 day fortnights etc, 1 in 4 Saturdays off.
*Members should forget D2D terminolgy and just think of them as live mail, which is what they will become, which means more traffic.
*All mail will removed from the back of postmen, ie buddy vans, trolleys etc, this again mens more hours will be needed.
*With more hours going in, then some PTers hopefully can get more hours.
*DOMS will have to work to this agreement the same as the CWU.
*When all the new machinery is in, then duty time should be no later than 1400 finish.
Can't think of anything else but if I do, I'll edit this post.
If any of you get the chance to go to any meeting with any of the top CWU, then I advise you to take the oppertunity and go, Bob Gibson was very good, and he knew what he was on about, and answered all questions put to him.
Please don't go slagging me off for this message, as I'm just trying to get over the information we received last night.

Re: Local Reps Briefing
You have to decide locally how it might work, you may start at 06:00 and prep D2D into the fitting, nothing is ruled out.
I would imagine a 9 day fortnight would be easier to introduce and that would be 1 in 4 sats off.
we have got think outside the box on this if it gets voted in.

Re: Local Reps Briefing
You MAY be able to start roughly the same time now because of the D2D issue, also you could have part of your break at the end of your duty, add travelling time back to the office and pouching off time you will be no where near 4-15.
Royal Mail do not want, and i don't think they can have anyway the last letter at 4+,i'm sure it's on here somewhere 2-30/3-30.
There will be ways round it,it only takes one office/branch to sort it then there will be a snowball effect.
My place is going through this now, will post up what happens. But i'm sure others will sort it soon anyway.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Local Reps Briefing
Dingo - if there are as you say a lot of wrong interpretations being put on this agreement by us,the workers, what "wrong interpretations" will Management be putting on this agreement ? It's their interpretations of the Pay and Modernisation agreement that have got us in this mess in the first place. The Union may trust management to go with "the spirit" of this deal, but most of us on the ground know all they are interested in is cuts and budgets.

Re: Local Reps Briefing
We are a rural office, last letter will be no later than 4pm according to the new agreement, we already have 2.50 finishes on Wed,Thurs,& Fri, so you have much more faith than I have if you think 10 hour days will make these finishes earlier rather than later, if we are managing with less staff on a Saturday than at present I cannott understand and my DOM cannott explain how it is going to work, can i just make it clear, my problem is with late finishes Saturdays, weekdays I have no problem with. It's all if's, but's and maybe's.POSTMAN wrote:You MAY be able to start roughly the same time now because of the D2D issue, also you could have part of your break at the end of your duty, add travelling time back to the office and pouching off time you will be no where near 4-15.

Okay but thats to sell the deal.trythat wrote:We had our branch AGM last night, and Bob Gibson was on to explain the agreement, and as someone else said on here, he will sell you the agreement, I'll admit, I was a 100% no voter, before last night, but now I probably a 60/40 for a yes vote.

*Local reps will have a meeting with Ward and co.
I'll belive it when i see it, but that wont be prior to the agreement.*Local reps will have training on how to do the revisions and working with the agreement.
*Area reps will receive a lot more training on negociating deals, revisions etc at a local level.
What are those figures They should be in the agreement!!! instead we have the process as to how they will be arrived at, after 4 months why??*Revisions will have a 6 stage process, using national figures for Georoute etc, no revision can be put in with Execitive action.
Can they be changed later under EA?? as the "new revision process" is not (as i understand it) gaurenteed to last to any later than 2013!
Not quering the saturdays off, it's in the agreement. Whats the bets that will involve longer delivery spans! Since there is no longer any maximum!*All members should receive the agreement (I think), and examples of what kind of attenance patterns could be, ie 4 day weeks, rota weeeks, 9 day fortnights etc, 1 in 4 Saturdays off.
examples of what kind of attenance patterns could be. Ahh that will be "the menu" which again is not in the f***ing agreement!
ie. you'll deliver more and get paid less.*Members should forget D2D terminolgy and just think of them as live mail, which is what they will become, which means more traffic.
This will help you do 4.5hr to 5hr delivery spans upto the age of 65!*All mail will removed from the back of postmen, ie buddy vans, trolleys etc, this again mens more hours will be needed.
Okay*With more hours going in, then some PTers hopefully can get more hours.
*DOMS will have to work to this agreement the same as the CWU.
but could be later. 3 o'clock for a 7 o'clock with 5 day attendance. no later than 7 start is what it says in the agreement, i'm only bothered about this on saturday i have to say.*When all the new machinery is in, then duty time should be no later than 1400 finish.
i don't intend this as slagging you off, infact i'm gratefull for the info. I just don't like the agreement. Can't think of anything else but if I do, I'll edit this post.
