New programme out in the Autumn and they want our views on our uniform here's what they've sent me.
ITV wrote:The programme is an hour-long documentary looking at the Corporate Uniform Industry and uniform design, and will feature the expertise of fashion gurus Trinny and Susannah. It will form part of a new primetime ITV1 fashion series featuring five films looking at unrelated fashion issues, which is scheduled for this Autumn.

The programme is likely to centre around the re-design of a well-known company uniform, and will include a discussion of the various stages of uniform design. In addition to this, there will also be a general discussion about the Corporate Wear industry and the range of uniforms we see on a daily basis in terms of the best and the worst ones out there according to T&S, plus the views of actual UK employees.

Consequently I’m eager to hear about how people feel about the uniforms they are given to wear for work.

The programme aims to explore the reasons that uniforms are worn and the impact they have.

We are really keen to hear the views from people who actually wear a uniform. We would like to find out what they think of their own uniform, do they love it or hate, what would they want to change, which uniform do they envy?

§ Are they well designed? (Comfortable? Practical? Nice material? Easy to wash and looked after?)

§ Is there anything you would change anything about your uniform?

§ How often are you given new items of clothing? Do you pay for these?

§ And are you consulted when a new uniform is being brought in as to what you’d like?

Would you be able to post these questions up on the forum for me? I’d also love to see pictures of people in their uniforms so that I can get an idea of what they look like in it

So come on then tell us what you think and i'll let them know, and they want pics with you in uniform as well(you can send them privately to me if you want and i'll send them on)who knows you may even get on the box :Very Happy Image

We would like to find out what they think of their own uniform, do they love it or hate, what would they want to change, which uniform do they envy?

I envy the Armed Forces wet weather kit. Why it keeps you dry on wet days and cool on hot days.

§ Are they well designed? (Comfortable? Practical? Nice material? Easy to wash and looked after?)

No, uncomfortable and always irratate my skin especially when sweating - crotch rot. Washing easy but wear out easily.

§ Is there anything you would change anything about your uniform?

Make shirts less heavy. Ideally light summer shirts and heavier winter shirts. Also make storm proof jacket a lot lighter and don't line it ( I always take mine out) - trousers just about ok. Weirdly shoes are too heavy but dont last long enough, about 4 - 6 months but they take 3 months to receive

§ How often are you given new items of clothing? Do you pay for these?

So far given new kit when asked for. No we dont pay.

§ And are you consulted when a new uniform is being brought in as to what you’d like?

Apparently we are but I've never met anyone who has been consulted.

i will start this off

how about getting the old style docs back they were a pig to break in but lasted for ages and were comfy once you files the edges down

lightweight waterproofs ive tried for ages to get them out of first line stolen to no avail just about everybody round our way wears their own waterproofs now

a coat like the old jacket detachable sleeves long keeps the rain out you dont sweat like a pig decent pockets with fasteners

longer fleece with zip pockets the ones we have now ride half way up your back when you are in and out of a van and you cant adjust them at the bottom

trainers for the summer

shorts that did not come out of the it aint half hot mum stores

proper body warmer with pockets

ski type hats for winter

in fact the only decent kit we have is the fingerless gloves and the snow chins for your shoes

all these clothes can be bought at any decent out door shop and do not need 4 years of developing and testing just order 10,000 of each in blue(red if tnt buy us)

There is a manager who sits in Rathbone Place and is/was called the uniform manager. Can't remember his name but think it might have been something like peter taylor. Anyway get your DOm to look up the role title on his computer.

I met him and tried to swindle out of the new cricket hat thingys but he wasn't budging. Lucky as I almost put a red line through his job. Anyway my point is that there is also an ergonomitcs team who do test out the uniform ideas with posties before going into large production.

As for the supply chain, well I agree I had stuff sent over that just disappeared. It was embrassing as a manager not being able to get your staff kit, or timely for that matter. They are in the process of improving the Swindom stores, but investment in IT systems to help speed up the process may not be coming through to you lot. I understand you can order the uniform yourself? Maybe my memory is wrong and you have to have authority from your manager?

Alternatively start bombarding Ask Allan with complaints about the uniform. Someone has to respond to those emails and they get sent to the relevant manager for a response. Allan actually gets a monthly report by topic!
