my rep (York) told me this morning that london and bristols voices were rather muted !!!

To say everyone was in agreement would be......... a lie.

To say that the majority went away thinking perhaps in a different frame of mind than when they arrived is true. The presentation from Bob Gibson went down very well and gave an excellent analysis of the D2D issue. This will be sent to all branches.

Every local rep in the UK will have a meeting with the CWU Officers over the next couple of weeks and every branch has been asked to call members meetings with PEC speakers etc.

Whatever the outcome these debates must be had and the best place for that is face to face.

ha, I don't think anyone's hiding mate it's just a very busy time plus people have life's.

All I would ever say to any member is force your rep to get a national speaker and at least have the debate. This is the most important vote on an agreement you'll ever make - it doesn't deserve to be made on the back of judging one issue or reading rmchat (no offence to the posters etc). This is real stuff - The future of the industry and everyone that works in it is at a crossroads.

Dont be paranoid, every member has the right and the need to hear this explained from senior CWU bods, it is only right and proper that they explain everything to the reps and members.

Are you saying that the proposed agreement should not be explained to the members and reps face to face from the national officers and the PEC?

Its clear and plainly clear this is a some win some lose agreement.
To try and sell it any other way is unsympathetic to the ones losing out.
remember the CWU are fighting for there very existance - they will try and sell even when they know its a rotten egg.
A No vote will dystroy them.

I'm sorry but no amount of discussion can prepare a rep to tell a p/t postie who has 800 drops and currently earns between £30 and £40 a week for his d2d that suddenly he will be earning about £15 for unlimited ones

As long as you remember Daz,these people are not the gods of the postal industry.
They do not have all the answers they have opinions based on their experience which may be extensive in the politics of the CWU but irrelevant as to how this agreement may affect you and those around you.
These meetings are as much about selling as informing and there is much selling to be done.
