This deal looks great for mail centre staff but beware that the CWU has done a deal with Royal Mail to reduce Mail Centres by 50% within the next 3 years !

Why would they be charged at a premium when they're paying us no extra to deliver them?
Of course, but with this new deal they can keep charges at a minimum and they're hardly going to price themselves out of potential markets, as the original poster suggested.

I bet you six billion quid that the d2d 'supplement' will be gone in a couple of years for whatever reason.
It will go the same way as our so called protected payments.
DONT trust Royal Mail.

Re: Reasons to vote yes!
Just wonder what on earth happened to the £400 basic they were aiming for, when Dave Ward touted this agreement it must have set the time scale backwards a bit - because it still won't be evident outside of London even by 2012.pickaname wrote:I bet you six billion quid that the d2d 'supplement' will be gone in a couple of years for whatever reason.

Re: Reasons to vote yes!
The biggest "reason" to vote yes is HQs ace card and they are not even sure if it is an ace or a joker.
I would expect over the next week or two an announcement by the Goverment that they will fulfil their obligation on the pension deficit.
IF and only IF there is a vote of acceptance for this agreement.
This threat or blackmail will in my opinion be enough to sway the membership towards a yes vote.
And if this happens i wil have had enough of this union and probably the job as well.

Re: Reasons to vote yes!
Nobody is even sure what the deficit is and I wonder if we ever will get the true figure. The suggestion that the Government is going to write off the deficit prior to the election is laughable - these union bods haven't the brains they were born with.fishtank wrote:The biggest "reason" to vote yes is HQs ace card and they are not even sure if it is an ace or a joker.

We have just had the banks bailed out and a hue and cry over the bonuses being paid out for abject failure using OUR money - now lets look at the scenario of a, lets say, 10 Billion deficit which the Government underwrite and then Crozier picks up his 2 million bonus and then asks the people to vote for a Labour government hot on his heels.
And if they feel that there will be a Labour government after the election and if there is, with a very slim majority, that they are going to be able to splash the cash they are deluded. Its more likely to be a Conservative power base who will sell us off immediately.
Now was the time to be strong and show whoever comes to power that we will not be bullied or blackmailed and that we will fight for decent working conditions and fair reward.

What exactly is supposed to be so appealing to MC Posties?
I asked El_Cartero the same thing, the other day. But he hasn't been able to tell me yet.

I don't think the deal is appealing to the MCs.
Just very slightly less unappealing.
Not in my opinion enough to sway someone who has read the full agreement.
But maybe enough for someone who perhaps carries a grudge from previous deals.

Or more worryingly. People who just look at the money, and don't bother to read what it will cost them, or their fellow Posties!

Re: Reasons to vote yes!
Funny innit ,how long will the bung last them ? 6 weeks tops ? and then the rest of their working lives at RM paying for it
( leaving aside the fact that they get most of the money under the terms of previous agreements anyway

Re: Reasons to vote yes!
After careful reading and consideration of the agreement i am minded to vote yes, as i do not think that there will be anything to be gained from further strike action particularly as doing so before the expected election could have serious implications if we are to have any hope of getting the government to take on our pensions liability. Also i have no personal problem with doing a fair days work and i feel that if there is work coming in from whatever source be it D2D or first class mail then there is more chance of keeping full time work.
I have some concerns however that the more militant members are not thinking about the average RM employee who just wants a fulltime job with a decent wage, something that working for RM does offer to a large number of people. do not get me wrong i belive that RM has a long way to go before i will be happy with the way it deals with its employees but if it comes to working a bit harder to keep my mortgage payed then so be it.

Do you not think that one of the main reasons working for RM still offers a full time job with a (reasonably) decent wage might have something to do with those "militant" members fighting for better terms and pay? As in my view, that definitely wouldn't be the case if everybody just buried their heads in the sand and gratefully accepted whatever they're given.
