Bottom line when cutting off at pouch off time

Post by noncwumember »

What is the bottom line here.
Our manager just tells us that it is down to standards.
Ongoing problem. Everyone bullied out door, no matter what time we finish.
All scared to cut off. Threats from bullying managers. No back up from Union.

Moved into Union room - despite your monica :Very Happy

The reasons are because it was in the 2010 Agreement section and is does not really fit in there.

As to your question could you clarify as not sure what you mean:

1. Are you saying manager not allowing people to cuff off.
2. What standards is he mentioning.
3. Is call rate and attendance rate taken into account.

On the no back up from Union - Unfortunately in this situation the Union can only advise you what you can do whether you take their advice and stick to your guns when the manager pressurises you is ultimately up to the individuals. The Union cannot cut off for you - you have to make that decision and accept the consequences yourself. If the consequences are unfair, break any laws or joint agreements (local and national) then the Union can step in and help out.

Noncwu ...

Standards ?

TrueBlue is right - the union can only advise you and ALWAYS ask them ..... if a manager discusses anything have your rep witness it.

Good Luck.

Standards ? - I know what they're at - Same as happened with me - If ( for any reason at all inc. workload / personal issues etc etc ) you inform management that you need to finish at your scheduled finish time - then they will simply imply that your standard of work indoors has been lower than needed to facilitate a full clearance and complete delivery. I know this because I am now up the you - know - what creek without the smallest of paddles in sight.
Why ? - because they pulled the exact same stunt on me ... and TBH after 15 / 16 years service believe you me I know what indoor performance is all about and I applied myself exactly the same way each and every day.
The managers know they have the upper hand at present - certainly in our office they have. They no longer justify anything they say or do.
I recall our dim stating at one wtll - if you dont like it buy the local paper and start looking elsewhere ( paraphrasing here of course. ) - with that type of attitude what chance have you. ?
The only thing to do is present a united front. Dont let people be singled out over "delivery issues" - if a collection of staff all make these clones aware of the issues involved and stand together - it makes life difficult for them ( easy to threaten an individual - not so a collective )

TrueBlue is right - the union can only advise you and ALWAYS ask them ..... if a manager discusses anything have your rep witness it.

Good Luck.
Thanks Mega Walk,
Try not to worry too much, they haven't followed proper procedures with you, even if you had done something wrong.
They won't follow it through, look up Constructive Dismissal.

All the best.

Firstly from your Name it's no wonder you don't get any Union Backing. If your not willing to join why should they Back you.

Do you mean that your Dom won't allow you to cut off at the end of your duty time or delivery span.
You should be allowed to do both but will find it hard to cut off after 3.5 hours, BUT at the end of your Duty Time is a legal right . you should phone the bullying and Harassment line and report your DOM. and just simply refuse to work past your finish time. The more of you in your office willing to do it the easier it is.
Royal Mail Managers threaten lots but if you follow correct procedure they don't have half the clout that they claim. do the job properly don't take a car, weigh your bags, work your correct hours and take your breaks. fill in grievance forms and contact the help line if they bully you.
When you start it seems like it will never work but it does and there is nothing they can do about it.

Stick together and good luck

I am a member of the CWU, however up until recently they had become the Non CWU.
Thanks for your advice, deep down I know you are right.
