You cant judge him on this set of proposals, look at everything a GS in the CWU is there for as laid out in the rule book. You may wish to consider which parts of the rules could be ditched or finetuned. Chief negotiator, should be made clear in the rule book as non industrial with the two DGS in the CWU being Chief negotiators in each of their respective Constituencies.

So is Billy doing his job as per the rule book yes or no?

The rules national and local have descriptions for each and every union role and that is the judgement criteria.

The General Secretary reports to the NEC. The General Secretary provides the strategic direction of the Union and takes the lead in relation to the Union’s management and relations with all outside bodies. The General Secretary is also Chief Spokesperson and representative of the CWU. The General Secretary also has a line management responsibility for the immediate office and allocation of responsibilities to all employees of the CWU.

His strategic skills must be open to debate considering that we have just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.4/10.
I would judge Billys performance on dealing with outside bodies (Labour Government) considering that privatisation was brought onto the agenda by the labour government as not very good. 5/10.
Having watched him on TV and having spoke to him at branch meetings, as a spokesperson I think he lacks certain skills. 6/10.

I can only hope that he makes a good line manager because he doesnt seem to have many other redeeming qualities.

KNOWN PERSONALITIES WITHIN ROYAL MAIL AND THE CWU

It is fair to say that those in the 'top jobs' come in for a lot of criticism on this forum, please post constructive criticism and nothing else. Any libellous or slanderous posts will be deleted or amended, in no way should these personalities have any abuse aimed at them, period.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

 Well in my opinion Billy is a s**t speaker, his media appearances are rambling unfocused and disjointed . To be perfectly frank the guy appears to be half cut every time i've seen him. Combine that with the fact that his tenure of office has coincided with the most rapid decline in this unions membership, and I think it would be fair to judge him as a failure as GS

I'd LOVE to see Billy take this forum to the courts for slander, that would let us know, if we didn't already, that he's against us and against open debate of this arse-wipe agreement.

How this for constructive criticism - Billy is WELL FAT and need to spend LESS of OUR money on trips to the friggin CAKE SHOP - in my personal opinion.

Unfortunately the union is not like the workplace, you promote someone beyond their capabilities and you sack them or move them sideways, however although technically employed by the CWU (that is us) we VOTE him and his cronies in and the only way to get rid of them is to vote them out - now there's the rub because you need capable people to replace them and quite frankly to see those posters aligned with the leadership on here it would be more of the same mediocrity.

No there is only one way to point out the error of their ways and that means NO MO £.
