TRAVELLERS who have set up home on a Poulton field have been given a postcode.
More than 70 travellers have applied for planning permission to stay on fields off Fairfield Road.

An injunction banning additional caravans being brought onto the site has already been imposed.

But Fylde Council has now handed those living at the site a postcode, meaning they can apply for utilities.

A Fylde Council spokesman said: "The judge at the injunction hearing ordered Fylde Council to provide the travellers with a postcode.

"Fylde argued at having to do so.

"The travellers argued it was essential for emergency services, the judge agreed and ordered Fylde to "undertake their best endeavours" to get a postcode for the travellers from Royal Mail.

"This does not prejudice the planning application, it does not give the application any special rights and it will be progressed normally."

But members of Singleton Parish Council say they are "strongly objecting" to the travellers' proposal to install utility buildings, cesspools, fencing and hardstandings.

And Singleton councillor Maxine Chew said: "Residents were upset when I spoke to them about the fact the travellers had been given a postcode as there is no planning permission at the site.

Well if they want the same as us give them the same as us. Make them get council tax bills and make them pay rent for the field.
